Dyeing your hair is not always an easy choice, especially given all the chemicals contained in hair dyes and DIY dyes. The good news is that you can darken your hair naturally thanks to coffee. This method is ideal for pregnant women and for those who want a non-permanent color. A little coffee and conditioner are enough!
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Dye your hair with coffee and conditioner
Step 1. Prepare the coffee
Brew about 1-2 cups (240–470ml) of good organic coffee. It is better that it is organic, otherwise it is likely to contain chemicals and preservatives. Make sure it's roasted black coffee. This will cause the hair to darken. Make it strong and make about 1-2 cups (240–470ml).
- You can choose the preparation method you prefer (the mocha or the American coffee machine), but avoid the instant one, because it may be too light to guarantee the desired results.
- Let it cool completely, or until it becomes lukewarm.
Step 2. Mix the coffee with the conditioner
You can use any conditioner of your choice, but it is better if it is rather thick to make it easier to apply the mixture. Mix one cup (240ml) of coffee with 2 tablespoons (30ml) of conditioner and 2 tablespoons (30ml) of organic coffee grounds. Mix the ingredients well with a spoon.
If you have long hair, increase the amount of coffee and conditioner. It is not necessary to strictly adhere to the quantities indicated: this is only a general advice
Step 3. Spread the mixture on the hair
Use your hands, or a wide-toothed comb, to distribute it evenly over your hair. When you're done, pull your hair into a bun to pull it away from your face as the dye works. Leave it on for at least an hour. After an hour, the conditioner is likely to start drying and hardening.
- It is a job to do in the bathroom in front of the mirror, to avoid getting dirty around and to see what you are doing.
- Put a towel over your shoulders, choosing one that you can get dirty without any problems. This will prevent the dye from dripping onto the clothes and staining the fabric.
Step 4. Rinse your hair
Get in the shower and rinse the dye out of your hair. Don't use shampoo - just let the water wash away all traces of conditioner and coffee.
You may need to repeat this a couple of times to get the desired results
Method 2 of 2: Dye your hair with a coffee rinse
Step 1. Make a shampoo
Wash your hair with shampoo. Try to get rid of all traces of oils and other hair products.
Step 2. Prepare the coffee
As in the previous method, make about 2 cups (470 ml) of strong, organic coffee. It involves pouring it directly on the hair, to make a coffee rinse. The more you prepare, the easier it will be to pour.
Let it cool until it is at room temperature or even colder
Step 3. Pour the coffee into a large enough container
When the coffee is ready, pour it into a fairly large bowl. Basically, it's a matter of finding a basin that is large enough to hold all the coffee that you will pour on your head and that can collect the liquid that will drip from your hair while you are upside down on the basin itself.
Step 4. Make the coffee rinse
Place the basin in the shower or bathtub and stand upside down on top of the basin. You can dip your hair in the liquid and use a cup to pour it evenly over your entire hair. This is to reach the nape of the neck and other parts of the hair that you cannot immerse in the basin. Pour the coffee on your head about 15 times. In this way the hair will be completely impregnated with coffee. Now squeeze them well and leave for a minimum of 20 minutes, up to a maximum of a couple of hours. To prevent the coffee from dripping to the ground, it is better to collect the hair in a bun.
Alternatively, you can pour the coffee into a nebulizer and then spray it on your hair. In any case, try to cover all hair evenly
Step 5. Rinse your hair with water
When the shutter speed is over, step into the shower and rinse your hair with water.
- To obtain the desired color intensity it may be necessary to repeat the operation a few more times.
- A final rinse with apple cider vinegar can have the effect of extending the duration of the color.
Advice
- Keep a towel around your neck and shoulders as coffee stains your clothes.
- This type of dye works very well on light brown hair. It is not suitable for those with very light blond hair.
