There is no denying: playing with slime is great, regardless of age! It's disgusting, sticky, and fun to touch and tap. The best known recipe involves the use of glue and borax, but not everyone has these ingredients on hand. However, you don't have to give up the pleasure of making your own slime and enjoying yourself. All you need is some shampoo and some other substance!
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use Shampoo and Corn Starch
Step 1. Pour 120ml of shampoo into a bowl
If it is thick, it will give better results. Choose the color and fragrance of your choice.
Step 2. Mix in some color or glitter if you like
If the shampoo is white or clear, you can add a few drops of liquid food coloring. If you want to get a shimmery slime, sprinkle some glitter. Mix everything with a spoon.
Step 3. Add 280g of cornstarch
Spin with the spoon. Follow this step if you want a more full-bodied dough. If, on the other hand, you prefer your slime to be more fluid and sticky, read on!
If you can't find cornstarch in stores, look for cornstarch (it's the same thing)
Step 4. Mix 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of water at a time
You will probably need 6 tablespoons of water (90 ml). The more you add, the smoother the slime will be. If you want the dough to be creamier, you will need to use a lot of water.
Step 5. Work the dough with your hands
At some point it will absorb all the water and cornstarch. It means it's ready and you can play with it! Remove it from the bowl and run it between your fingers. It will be disgusting!
- Keep it in an airtight container once you're done playing.
- You will probably need to add 1.25ml of water the next day to soften it.
Method 2 of 3: Use Shampoo and Salt
Step 1. Pour some thick shampoo into a bowl
You can use any type of shampoo, but if it has a thicker texture, it will do better. Choose the color and scent you prefer.
Step 2. Mix some bubble bath if you wish
It will help thicken the slime. The quantity must be equal to that of the shampoo. Stir until the two ingredients are combined well, that is, until you see no more streaks in the mixture.
Make sure the shower gel and shampoo are similar colors, otherwise the slime won't look nice
Step 3. Add in a pinch of salt to make the mixture more compact
There is no precise amount for salt, as each brand of shampoo reacts differently. Just add a pinch of it and turn a little. Keep adding and stirring until the shampoo has turned into a sticky lump.
Step 4. Cool the mixture for 15 minutes
Once you have this thick, sticky moss, place the bowl in the freezer for a quarter of an hour.
Step 5. Play
Once 15 minutes have passed, the slime will be ready and you can play with it! When you're done, put it in an airtight container. You'll likely have to put it back in the freezer for a quarter of an hour if it gets too runny.
Method 3 of 3: Use Shampoo and Toothpaste
Step 1. Pour some 2 in 1 shampoo (shampoo and conditioner together) into a bowl
It seems this product is more effective. Choose the fragrance that matches the mint scent.
You can also use regular shampoo, but make sure it's thick enough
Step 2. Add the toothpaste
It makes no difference if it is white-paste or gel. The quantities are the same: one part of shampoo and one part of toothpaste.
Step 3. Stir with a spoon
Keep turning until the color is smooth and you no longer see any streaks. As you mix, the shampoo and toothpaste will combine and form a sticky mixture.
Step 4. Adjust the consistency as needed
If you feel it is too thick, you can add more shampoo. If it's too fluid, add some toothpaste. Incorporate the ingredients as needed and mix the dough well.
Step 5. Play with the slime
It won't be as creamy as store-bought, but you'll enjoy touching and tapping it. When you're done, ball it up and place it in an airtight container.
Advice
- Add some glitter or sequins if you want your slime to be shimmery.
- Add some food coloring to liven up your slime. You can also use liquid watercolors. If you want to keep it classic, go for green.
- Keep it in an airtight container when you're done playing.
- Slime can get dirty, so play on a table. Do not put it on the carpet and do not put it in contact with clothes.
- It won't last forever. Eventually it will dry out.
- The recommended shampoo is Tresemme 2 in 1.
- You can also add some plastic beads or the pellet material used to stuff the sack-shaped ottomans if you want to give the dough more texture!
- Do not give slime to young children if it is not edible. They can ingest it inadvertently.
