Playing with slime is a lot of fun. Although the most common instructions for making it require the use of glue and borax, there are other ways to do it without using these substances. In some cases, simple substances such as dish soap and corn starch are used. In others, more surprising ingredients can be used, such as yogurt! Prepared with these methods, it probably won't last as long as normal, but it's easy and fun while it lasts!
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use Dishwashing Liquid and Corn Starch
Step 1. Pour 23ml of dish soap into a bowl
You can use more of it to make a larger dough, but you'll need to add more cornstarch as well.
- Consider using a colored or scented detergent. Use a green one to make the classic slime.
- You can also use shampoo instead of dish soap. The denser it is, the better!
Step 2. Mix in some food coloring or glitter if you like
You don't have to, but they will allow you to make a more engaging looking game. If you're using dish soap, add a drop of food coloring. If you want the slime to be sparkly, add a pinch of glitter. Mix everything with a spoon.
Step 3. Add 15g of cornstarch to the bowl
It will thicken the detergent, turning it into slime!
- If you have used more detergent, you will need to increase the corn starch too.
- If you can't find cornstarch, use cornmeal.
Step 4. Mix all the ingredients for about 10 seconds
As you spin, the detergent and cornstarch will blend and react to create the slime!
Step 5. Finish kneading the slime with your hands
At some point, the detergent will absorb all the cornstarch. Then, dip your hands into the bowl and knead with your fingers until the mixture is uniform.
If the dough is too runny, add more cornstarch. If it's too solid, add more dish soap
Step 6. Play with the slime
Run it between your fingers. Disgusting, right? When you're done playing, store it in an airtight container. Keep in mind that it will lose its elasticity and will be bound to dry out.
Method 2 of 3: Use Yogurt and Corn Starch
Step 1. Pour 15 g of yogurt into a bowl
The plain unsweetened one is the best choice for this purpose. You can use any type of yogurt, but make sure it's smooth and homogeneous, with no pieces of fruit inside.
You can use more of it to make a larger dough. In this case, you need to use 1 part yogurt and 3 parts cornstarch
Step 2. Add some food coloring if desired
You don't have to, but it will allow you to make a more engaging looking game. Pour in a drop or two, then mix with a spoon.
Step 3. Add 23g of cornstarch
The corn starch will allow the yogurt to thicken and turn into slim! If you put more yogurt, you will need to add triple cornstarch.
If you can't find cornstarch, use cornmeal
Step 4. Mix everything
Once the ingredients start to come off the inside of the bowl, you can start kneading with your hands. Keep mixing and kneading until the ingredients have blended, forming a ball.
Step 5. Play with the slime
Tap it, stretch it, and insert your fingers. Even though the ingredients are edible, it is not recommended to ingest it! When you are done playing, place it in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. Keep in mind that the dough will tend to spoil over time. When it starts to smell bad or look weird, throw it away!
Method 3 of 3: Using Psyllium Husks
Step 1. Pour 1 tablespoon of psyllium husks into 240ml of water
Take a tablespoon of psyllium husks and pour it into a bowl. Add 240ml of water.
You can find psyllium husks at most health food stores and stores that sell herbal products
Step 2. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes
At this juncture, you will notice that it begins to thicken. Don't worry if it feels too liquid.
Step 3. Add some dye if desired
You can leave the dough light or add some food coloring to make your slime look more appealing. If it is in gel it will be better, but in the absence of anything else you can also use a liquid one.
Don't add glitter. You need to put the mixture in the microwave
Step 4. Stir with a spoon
Shake the mixture until it is homogeneous. If you have added the dye, keep mixing until you get a uniform color without streaks.
Step 5. Place the bowl in the microwave for 5 minutes
Don't walk away. Keep an eye on the slime. When the bubbles begin to rise to the surface, pause the oven and let the dough "deflate". When it is lowered again, turn the oven on again and finish cooking.
You will likely need to pause the oven more than once
Step 6. Put the slime in the refrigerator
When you take the bowl out of the microwave, you will see a disgusting, sticky, and a little chubby slime. However, the dough is still too hot to play with, so put it in the refrigerator to cool. You will have to wait a couple of minutes.
Step 7. Play with the slime
With this method you will get a compact, sticky and gelatinous slime. You can also add some decoration, such as a pair of joker eyes. When you're done playing, store it in an airtight container.
