Everyone is fascinated by slime. Its sticky texture feels smooth and solid at the same time, which allows you to stretch, shape and play with it however you want. Slime is also great for getting kids involved in a science experiment. The traditional recipe involves the use of glue and borax, but there are also other methods to create it. Try making your own slime with household products you can find in the kitchen or bathroom.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Making Slime with Shaving Foam
Step 1. Start by using a 3-1 baby shower gel
It is produced by several brands and costs no more than a few euros. Basically, it is a blend that contains body cleanser, shampoo and conditioner. Pour 240ml into a large plastic container.
The more you use, the more abundant the dough will be
Step 2. Blend the shaving cream
Shaving foam allows you to add texture to the slime. You have to mix it in equal parts with the bubble bath (the ratio is 1: 1). So, if you use 240ml of shower gel, add 240ml of shaving foam to the bowl.
If you prefer to change the dose of the shower gel, use the same amount for the shaving foam as well in order to maintain the ratio of 1: 1 and obtain the right density
Step 3. Mix well
Use a spoon or whisk to mix the ingredients. Keep stirring until you get a thick and homogeneous consistency. Once the ingredients are evenly mixed, you can finish the slime.
Step 4. Sprinkle some salt
Pour a tablespoon of salt into the mixture. It will help you to give the dough more compactness. You can change the consistency by adding more or less salt as needed.
Step 5. Turn
Use the spoon or whisk again to mix the salt. As you mix, you can add a little more if you wish. Blend the mixture for 20-30 seconds or until it becomes uniform.
Step 6. Cool the slime
Put it in the freezer for 15 minutes to let it set. Once removed, it will be ready and you can play with it!
Method 2 of 3: Making Slime with Bubble Bath
Step 1. Pour the bubble bath into a bowl
Unlike the previous method which suggests using a 3-in-1 bubble bath, you'll need a regular bubble bath for this recipe. You can choose it of the brand or fragrance you prefer. Put 240ml in a large bowl.
You can color the slime by adding food coloring to the bubble bath
Step 2. Make the dough more compact with cornstarch
Corn starch will allow you to get a thicker, more viscous consistency. Start by adding it in equal parts to the bubble bath. Pour in more if you feel it is necessary.
Step 3. Knead the ingredients
The best way to mix them is to use your hands. If you don't want to dirty them, you can use a spoon. Mix them until the mixture has acquired a fairly compact consistency.
Step 4. Liquify the slime with water
If it is too thick, you can use water to make it more fluid. If it is too liquid, you can thicken it by adding more cornstarch. Try experimenting with different types of slime using various proportions of cornstarch and water.
Method 3 of 3: Making the Oobleck
Step 1. Combine cornstarch and water
Mix a can of cornstarch with 240-480ml of water. Use your hands to work the ingredients until they reach the consistency of honey. By using different amounts of water, you can change the consistency according to your preferences.
If you want to color the oobleck, add the food coloring to the water before mixing it with the cornstarch
Step 2. Turn the dough out onto a baking sheet
Once you have the right consistency, transfer the oobleck from the bowl onto a flat surface. Observe how it behaves in relation to other liquids. As you pour it, it gets slimy and sticks to itself.
Step 3. Play with the oobleck
This compound changes depending on the force exerted. Try to pick it up and hit it. You will notice that it hardens if you manipulate it vigorously.
Advice
- Store the slime for later use in an airtight bag or container.
- You can add the food coloring in all the recipes listed in the article.
