Making slime at home is a perfect DIY project for an afternoon off. You can make it with simple ingredients and then play with it for hours. Of course, once it's ready, you need to keep it fresh. The best way to do it? Place it in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. When it goes bad, it's best to throw it away.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Use an airtight bag
Step 1. Place the slime in a plastic bag
A simple airtight kitchen bag is more than enough to store the slime. Choose one that fits the size of the pasta. Since it is preferable to have as little air as possible in the bag, avoid using one that is too large.
Step 2. Remove excess air
Close the bag almost entirely, then press it down to remove as much air as possible. Since the air dries out the slime, removing it helps keep it intact.
Step 3. Close the bag
Once you have eliminated as much air as possible, close the bag tightly. Review the latch to make sure it is tight.
Step 4. Put the bag in the fridge
Keeping it in the refrigerator helps keep the slime intact. Pasta is a breeding ground for bacteria, the proliferation of which can cause it to go bad. Keeping it in the fridge helps slow down this process.
Method 2 of 4: Use an Airtight Container
Step 1. Choose a container that is large enough for the slime
Air is the enemy of slime, as it dries it out. Choose a bowl that barely fits the pasta. You can also attach cling film to the top of the slime to keep it from drying out. Press the foil over the dough and stick it into the edges.

Step 2. Close the container
Close the container and check that it is tight all around the perimeter. You can also use a container or jar with a screw-on lid. Always remember that your goal is to avoid exposing the slime to the air.
Step 3. Put the slime in the fridge
The refrigerator is the best place ever to store it. The cold helps slow the proliferation of bacteria, mold and other harmful microorganisms.
Method 3 of 4: Keep the Slime Fresh
Step 1. Keep the slime away from dirty surfaces
If you have to place it on a dirty surface, such as dirt, throw it away. Better to keep it away from these areas for proper storage.
Step 2. Wash your hands before playing with slime
The bacteria that accumulate on the hands can make it more prone to the proliferation of harmful microorganisms. Try to wash them thoroughly before playing with the slime. Use warm soapy water. Make sure you massage them for 20 seconds.
Step 3. Add water to dry slime
If the slime has dried out, you can put it in a bowl and pour some water into it. Stir with your hands until the dough is soft. You can also use a drop or two of antibacterial gel instead of water.
Method 4 of 4: Throwing the Slime
Step 1. Check the slime one week after preparation
Slime doesn't last long - it usually stays intact for a week, if not less. Make sure you play with it before it spoils and inspect it a week after preparing it to determine if you should throw it away.
Step 2. Discard the moldy slime
If it starts to mold, then it's time to throw it away. Mold comes in the form of white or blue fuzz. If you look at these characteristics, it's time to make another slime.
Step 3. Examine the slime for any dirt
If you see traces of dirt, then it's time to throw it out. The slime can be discolored or smell bad. Also throw it away in case you accidentally drop it in a dirty place.
Step 4. Throw it in the trash
Since it looks liquid, you may be tempted to throw it down the sink drain. However, it is much better to throw it in the garbage can, as it can clog the drain pipes.
