Slime is a very popular fun among children and the reason is clear: playing with it is fun! Creating it at home is a simple and inexpensive process. Choose one of the four recipes illustrated in this article; vary based on preparation time and budget.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Simple Slime
Step 1. Mix borax powder and hot water
Keep in mind that this slime is toxic if swallowed. Do not leave children unattended if they use this solution. Mix 15ml of borax powder with 240ml of hot water. Pour the two ingredients into a large bowl and continue stirring until all the powder has dissolved.
Step 2. Add 120ml of glue with the same amount of water to a second bowl
Step 3. Add food coloring to the glue (optional)
Choose the color you prefer. Start with a few drops, then mix. If you want to get a brighter color, add a few more drops. If you put on too much, the color may get darker and dye your hands when playing with slime.
You can divide the mixture into smaller jars and color it with different shades
Step 4. Combine the two products
Pour the mixture with the borax a little at a time; if you add too much, the slime becomes too hard and instead of being elastic it will tear. Mix the two solutions until you reach the desired consistency and until it stops sticking to your hands. You will see the slime gradually take shape.
- If you have decided to make a lot of colored slimes, divide the borax mixture into the various jars of tinted glue.
- Start working the slime with your hands at this point. It might be too sticky, but keep stirring. Add more borax as needed.
Step 5. Take it out of the jar and enjoy
If it's too sticky, add more borax and water until you get your preferred texture.
Method 2 of 4: "Alive" slime
Step 1. Mix 180ml of cornstarch with half a liter of seed oil
Pour both ingredients into a large bowl. Mix it carefully.
When making this type of slime (also known as oobleck) it is possible to substitute cornstarch with other ingredients
Step 2. Put the mixture in the refrigerator
Put the bowl in the fridge and leave it there for about 1 hour. The low temperature will allow the slime to solidify until it reaches the ideal consistency.
Step 3. Take it out of the fridge and mix well (the ingredients will separate again)
Wait for it to warm up a bit for it to become slightly fluid again.
Step 4. Take a piece of Styrofoam
Any size will work, but usually a 25 x 150 x 150mm block is used. Rub it through your hair or onto the carpet several times to get it charged with static electricity.
Step 5. Slowly pour the mixture into another container
Hold the styrofoam right in front of the mixture, about 2-3 cm. The slime should stop, giving the impression of being alive.
Move the styrofoam and the slime should follow. Your children will be fascinated by it
Method 3 of 4: Edible Slime
Step 1. Pour a pack of condensed milk into a saucepan
Add the cornstarch and mix until everything is combined.
Step 2. Slightly heat the mixture
Put the stove on low heat and continue stirring constantly as it heats up. If you don't stir the mixture constantly, it may stick to the pot.
Step 3. Remove the pot from the heat once the mixture has thickened
With heat, the slime will gradually become more gelatinous and thick. When it reaches that point, remove the pot from the stove.
Step 4. Add 10-15 drops of food coloring
You can use any color you want. Green is a classic, but experiment or let the kids choose one.
Step 5. Wait for the mixture to cool
Before allowing your kids to play with it (and eat it), let it cool completely. Make sure the slime doesn't get everywhere as it stains easily.
Method 4 of 4: Slime with Soap Flakes
Step 1. Dissolve 1 cup of soap flakes in 1 liter of warm water
Pour the hot water into a basin carefully. Measure the flakes and add them to the container. Stir thoroughly until the soap dissolves completely.
Step 2. Add a few drops of dye (optional)
Step 3. Let the mixture sit for 1 hour
This is so that the mixture reaches the desired consistency.
Step 4. Beat the product vigorously with a spoon
The mixture will begin to frothy. When it pours easily and is particularly slimy to the touch, it means it has reached the ideal consistency.
Step 5. Store it in an airtight container
This type of slime keeps very well if you protect it from heat and sunlight.

Advice
- If you put it in a cup and squeeze it, it will make a funny sound.
- The recipe can be modified by varying the proportion of the ingredients. For example, if 2 parts of borax solution are used, the slime will be "harder" and less sticky.
- If you don't want to use borax, use cornstarch.
- Vinavil glue is suitable for this project.
-
This solution is a lot of fun on the same day it is created. As the hours go by, the slime will engulf particles of dust and dirt that will make it unpleasant to handle.
If you want to keep it, label the container to avoid confusion and store it in a cool place
Warnings
- Borax is toxic if ingested. Don't let the kids put the slime in their mouth and don't either. Follow the instructions to the letter.
- Do not smell or eat the glue.
