Making simple slime is a fun pastime, but making colorful slime is even more interesting. Food dyes are the most commonly used ingredients for this purpose, but you can also use other products, such as paint, eye shadow or even markers! You can dye a ready-made transparent or white slime, or you can choose a simple recipe for making a colored slime from scratch.

Steps
Method 1 of 4: Dye a Ready-made Slime
Step 1. Add a drop of food coloring to the slime and knead
Choose the color you want to add to the slime. Pour a drop directly on the mixture, then knead everything with your hands. Continue to knead until the dye is evenly distributed, thus making the slime shade uniform. Add another drop of product to intensify the color.
You can use only one color or combine more than one. For example, you could add a drop of blue food coloring to make the slime this color. If you want it purple, mix one drop of blue dye and one drop of red dye
Warning: Food dyes can stain hands, clothes and other surfaces if they fall on them. Put on a pair of disposable gloves and an old shirt or apron before kneading the slime. Also cover the counter with paper napkins or newspaper.
Step 2. Use a marker to draw on the slime, then knead it to distribute the color
Drawing on slime with washable markers is a fun and easy way to color it. Spread the mixture, flattening it as much as possible, then make the designs you want; alternatively, simply color it with a marker. Then, knead the slime to distribute the color.
- Repeat the process as many times as you like to intensify the color.
- Mix multiple colors to get new ones, like yellow and blue to make a green slime or red and blue to make it purple.
Step 3. Add 1 teaspoon of pigment to the slime
You can use a pigment specially designed for making slime or a powder eyeshadow. Measure 1 teaspoon of the product of your choice, then mix the pigment with the slime until it is evenly distributed in the mixture.
- Add larger amounts of pigment as needed to achieve the desired color.
- You can use any eyeshadow or pigment you want to dye the slime. For example, try a purple product to make the compound of this tint, if you want a shimmery black slime instead, choose a pigment or a glitter charcoal eyeshadow.
Step 4. Mix the glitter with the slime to make it colorful and shimmery
Choose colored glitter of the size and texture you want, then add about 1 teaspoon to the slime and knead. Keep adding 1 teaspoon at a time until you get the shade you want.
- To get a shimmery slime, you can also replace regular glue with an equal dose of glue containing glitter.
- Chunky glitter doesn't allow you to dye slime, but you can combine it with a dye if you want it shimmery.
Method 2 of 4: Make Slime with Paint or Food Coloring
Step 1. Mix equal parts of water and white or clear vinyl glue
Measure 120ml of water and 120ml of white or clear vinyl glue. Pour both ingredients into a bowl and mix them with a plastic or metal spoon until smooth.
- If you use clear glue, the slime will have a translucent or crystalline effect.
- If you use white glue, the slime will be opaque, with no translucent effect.
advise: If you use colored glue, you won't need to add any food coloring or paint to the slime. In fact, it will acquire the color of the glue used.
Step 2. Add a couple of drops of the food coloring or paint you want
Food dyes are the most popular option, but you can also use other liquid dyes, such as acrylic paint, tempera, or liquid watercolors. You could even try glow-in-the-dark paint to make the slime look more original.
You can choose a single color of your liking or combine two different ones: for example, you can mix 1 drop of yellow dye and 1 drop of red to make an orange slime
Step 3. Add the liquid dye to the glue and water mixture, then mix using a spoon until you get a uniform color
If the slime is still too light for your taste, add a couple more drops of dye, then mix again. Continue to incorporate one drop of color at a time until you have the desired shade.
For example, if you add 1 drop of green food coloring and the mixture turns an almost imperceptible light green, then pour in another drop and mix again
Step 4. Add 60ml of liquid starch
Measure the starch and pour it into the bowl, then mix it with the other ingredients until smooth.
- Use clear liquid starch or a color similar to that of the pigment.
- You can combine liquid starch with the other ingredients using a spoon or fork.
Step 5. Knead the slime for 1 minute to finish making it
After you finish mixing the ingredients, the mixture will start to turn into a lump. When this happens, take it out of the bowl. Knead it with your hands until you reach the desired consistency. By mixing it, it will gradually become more and more compact.
- If after mixing it for 1 minute it is too compact, add 1-2 teaspoons of water and knead it again.
- If after 1 minute kneading it is overly sticky, add 1-2 teaspoons of starch and knead it again.
- Wear a pair of gloves to protect your hands from the dye if you wish.
Step 6. Store the slime in an airtight plastic container or zip bag
If you keep it clean and store it in a suitable container when you are not using it, it will last several weeks. Once it's dry, throw it away and make another one.
Method 3 of 4: Make Slime with Eyeshadow or Pigment Powder
Step 1. In a bowl, mix equal doses of water and glue
Pour 120 ml of water into a bowl, then add 120 ml of white or clear vinyl glue. Combine the ingredients with a spoon until the mixture is uniform.
advise: You can double the amounts of water and glue to make larger amounts of slime, but make sure you double the amount of both ingredients exactly and double the amount of liquid starch as well.
Step 2. Look for an eyeshadow or powder pigment of the color you want
Since eyeshadow has to be grated to make the powder, be sure to choose one that you can damage without regretting it. Alternatively, use whatever pigment powder you want, such as scrapbooking.
To make an even more original slime, try using a glow-in-the-dark pigment powder. You may find it in an art supplies store, but you will certainly have better luck online
Step 3. Grate 1 teaspoon of eyeshadow into the glue and water mixture
For best results, first grate the product into a plastic bag, then mash it with the back of a spoon to make a fine powder. A small amount is enough, so start with 1 tsp. You can always add more later!
If you are using a powdered pigment, measure 1 teaspoon of it and add it to the mixture of glue and water
Step 4. Blend the powder into the glue and water mixture with a spoon until you get a uniform color
If the color isn't intense enough, add a pinch of extra eyeshadow or pigment powder and mix again. Make sure you remove all lumps!
If you are unable to remove all the lumps with a spoon, replace it with a fork or small whisk instead
Step 5. Pour in 60ml of liquid starch
Measure and add the starch to the bowl. Then, mix all the ingredients with a spoon, until the mixture is homogeneous.
Use clear liquid starch or choose a color similar to the pigment
Step 6. Knead the slime until it solidifies
Once the ingredients have clumped, remove the mixture from the bowl and squeeze it with your fingers. Keep kneading it with your hands for 1 minute, until it thickens and stops being sticky.
- If after kneading it for 1 minute it is too solid, add 1-2 teaspoons of water and knead for another minute.
- If after kneading it for 1 minute it is too sticky, add 1-2 teaspoons of starch and knead for another minute.
- Before you start kneading, you can put on a pair of gloves to protect your hands from eyeshadow or powdered pigment.
Step 7. Store the slime in a zip bag or airtight container
It should last for about 5-7 weeks if you store it properly. Keep it clean and store it in a plastic container or zip bag after using it. It will then begin to harden and dry out. When this happens, throw it in the trash and prepare it again.
Method 4 of 4: Mix the Slime Ingredients with the Liquid from a Felt Pen
Step 1. In a bowl, mix equal parts of glue and water
In a bowl, pour 120ml of water and 120ml of white or clear vinyl glue. Stir with a spoon until a homogeneous consistency is obtained.
Step 2. Remove the bottom cap of a washable coarse tip pen
Choose the color you want. You can use any color you like or mix 2 or more to get a new shade. Squeeze the end of the bottom cap with pliers or a wrench and unscrew it to remove it.
- For example, you could use a red marker to make a red slime or mix red and blue for a purple slime.
- Use a scented marker to make a nice smelling slime.
Step 3. Remove the felt cartridge
Turn the marker over and try to slide the felt cartridge out to remove it. If it doesn't come out, open a paper clip, then use the pointed end to skewer the cartridge and pull it out. You can also try using long-nosed tweezers, a toothpick, or a skewer.
This step can get you dirty, so it's best to wear a pair of vinyl gloves during the procedure and do it on old newspaper
Step 4. Squeeze 1-2 drops of pigment into the glue
Supporting the felt cartridge on the glue, squeeze it with your fingers. Since the ink is pretty concentrated, you won't need much of it. Remember that you can always add more at a later time.
Step 5. Combine the pigment with the glue
If the color isn't vibrant enough, squeeze another drop of ink into the glue and mix again. Keep in mind that slimes made with white vinyl glue will always acquire a light pastel hue unless you add a large dose of pigment.
advise: when you finish adding the pigment, you can throw away the felt pen you opened and keep the felt in a plastic bag if you want to use it to dye other slimes in the future, otherwise put the felt cartridge back in the tube and close the felt pen with the cap.
Step 6. Add 60ml of clear liquid starch to the glue and water mixture
Measure 60ml of liquid starch and add it to the bowl, then mix the ingredients with a spoon to combine them.
Choose a liquid starch similar in color to your marker or use a clear one
Step 7. Knead the slime for 1 minute to finish the procedure
Once the mixture has started to thicken and turn into a mass, remove it from the bowl and knead it with your hands. Continue to knead the slime until you get an even color and desired consistency.
- If the slime is excessively solid, add 1-2 teaspoons of water. Then, knead it for another minute.
- If the slime is excessively sticky, add 1-2 teaspoons of starch, then knead it for another minute.
- You may want to put on a pair of gloves before you start kneading to protect your hands from the dye.
Step 8. Place the slime in an airtight container or zip bag
The slime can be stored like this for several weeks. Keep the slime clean and put it away after each use. Prepare it again once it starts to dry out.
