Grapefruit is a delicious fruit that belongs to the citrus family. Sometimes it tastes quite pungent, but a pinch of sugar immediately makes it sweeter. Grapefruit is good for your health and you can eat it for both breakfast and snack. Enjoy it as you like: in wedges, peeled, cut in half, sliced in eight or four parts. Read on to find out some recipes and some different ways to eat grapefruit.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: From the Scorza
Step 1. If you've never eaten a grapefruit before, be careful
You may be allergic.
Step 2. Buy a nice grapefruit from the greengrocer
It should be firm but not too hard. Grapefruits don't ripen very much once harvested, so choose carefully.
Step 3. Wash the fruit
Step 4. Cut it out
Step 5. Sprinkle it with a little sugar or salt if you wish
Step 6. Insert a spoon into the grapefruit (the ideal would be one with a serrated tip), and extract a piece
Be careful not to get the white skin that separates the various segments because it is hard and bitter.
Step 7. Repeat this process
Step 8. You should have finished your grapefruit by now; if not, you may not have followed these steps correctly
Step 9. Eliminate the peels in an environmentally friendly way, for example by throwing them in the compost
Step 10. Use an alternative method
If that just explained is too difficult for you, or you don't like the amount of peel you have to manage, try the next techniques.
Method 2 of 3: In wedges
Step 1. Cut the grapefruit in half using a small knife
Step 2. Cut it into wedges
Divide each half and then the quarters, and so on until you get the pieces of the size you want.
Step 3. With a knife peel each clove
Step 4. Cut the pulp in half to remove the seeds
Step 5. Enjoy grapefruit
Method 3 of 3: In Recipes
Step 1. Eat it in a salad
It is truly delicious. Cut it into wedges as described above and mix it with rocket (or a salad of your choice), feta cheese, walnuts and a little pinzimonio for a healthy and delicious meal.
Step 2. Prepare it on the grill
In this way the natural sugars caramelize and release all the flavor. You can cut the grapefruit in half and grill it pulp side down for 5 minutes, or slice it into small circles and cook for 2 minutes. Add a little honey to get a healthy and tasty treat.
Step 3. Make a sauce
If you like orange or mango, try grapefruit too. Cut the fruit into cubes and combine the lime, caramelized onions, chopped jalapeno pepper and a diced avocado. You can spread this sauce on crackers or use it to season salmon, put it in a salad or any other dish that includes a sauce.
Step 4. Squeeze it
You can use the juice in many ways, such as as a substitute for lime in margaritas. You can drink it pure or with a little water for a thirst-quenching drink. Pour it over the roast chicken to change a little from the usual lemon.
Advice
- If it tastes too sour for your taste, sprinkle some sugar on the wedges.
- After you have eaten all the pulp, squeeze the rest of the grapefruit to make the juice: you can drink it or use it for a smoothie.
- If you're tired of eating grapefruit the same way all the time, try freezing it. It will be a kind of fruit popsicle with no added sugar and syrups.
- Be careful not to cut yourself while slicing the grapefruit.
- Try eating it with some maple sugar - it's delicious!
- To decorate the grapefruit, cut it in half, adding a cherry in the center and a sprig of mint on the side.
- Try boiling a grapefruit with brown sugar, or with a blue cheese.
Warnings
- Grapefruit can have dangerous interactions with some medications. If you are taking any medicines, consult your doctor before eating one.
- Do not eat the skin that separates the grapefruit wedges: it is the hardest part of the fruit, does not taste good and is difficult to chew.
