A cashier's check is issued by a bank, which guarantees its validity without the check being tied to your current account. For this feature, it is considered a safer means of payment than personal checks, especially in the case of significant transactions or real estate contracts. A cashier's check is simple to obtain, and the service is usually fairly inexpensive.
Steps
Step 1. Get all the necessary data
To issue a cashier's check, you will need to tell the bank how to fill it out, i.e. you will need the details to make the check payable (name or company name of the beneficiary) and the amount of the check.
Step 2. Get sufficient funds
Evaluate the amount to be paid and the commission, which is usually fixed but can also represent a percentage of the check amount. At the time of issue, you will have to cover the full amount, in cash or withdraw it from your current account, this in the event that the check is issued by the bank of which you are account holder. Unlike personal checks, bank drafts are immediately debited from your checking account.
Step 3. Go to the bank and buy the check at the counter
Any bank can issue a cashier's check on demand, but it's easier if you go to a bank you are already a customer of, not just to be able to pay the check with funds from your account. In some cases, a bank that you are not a customer of will ask you for documents and authorizations, or will deny you the ability to issue the check for cash.
Step 4. Have the cashier fill out the cashier's check
Any cashier can fill out the check, as long as you provide the information completely and correctly, paying particular attention to how it is made out.
Step 5. Pay the check
In this case, you will pay the face amount of the check plus the bank fee. Make sure you have a receipt of the operation, a cashier's check has different methods of blocking and returning in case of theft, loss or deterioration.
Step 6. For small amounts, consider different payment options
For example, a bank transfer to the creditor's account, often less expensive and without the risks associated with issuing and transporting the check.
