It may seem impossible to get an egg into a bottle, but with this article you will be able to amaze your friends and they will wonder how you did it!
Steps
Step 1. Get a glass bottle and a peeled hard-boiled egg
Make sure there are no liquid residues in the bottle and, above all, no flammable substances.
Step 2. Place the bottle on a flat surface, with the opening facing up
Step 3. Carefully, light three matches
Always acting carefully, drop them into the bottle. Wait a few seconds.
Step 4. Quickly place the egg in the opening of the bottle, turning it wide side up
Step 5. Wait
When the matches have gone out, the egg will be sucked into the bottle. You are now ready to impress your friends.
Advice
- This trick works because the matches, by burning, heat the air inside the bottle and release steam (water) as a result of the combustion. This process causes the air in the bottle to expand and come out. Once the egg has sealed the opening, the matches will no longer have air to burn and will go out. As the air in the bottle cools, the volume of the air decreases as the water vapor condenses (try to see the "cloud" that forms in the bottle when the matches go out). When this happens, the air exerts less pressure on the egg, while the pressure outside the bottle does not change. The egg will be pushed into the bottle once the difference between the two forces is sufficient to deform the egg and overcome the friction with the neck of the bottle.
- Most of the time the egg will remain intact once sucked into the bottle, but the results may also vary.
- The neck of the bottle must be narrow, but it must be at least half the diameter of the egg.
- Do you want to leave the shell on the egg? Just leave it soaked in vinegar for 24 hours: the shell will have become soft and you can perform the trick by following the same steps. Then just wait another 24 hours and the shell will be hard again. You can also play this trick with a raw egg.
- Don't wait too long after lighting the matches, or they'll go out right away.
- You can also do this with a balloon. Place the opening of the balloon on the neck of the bottle and it will be sucked into it.
Warnings
- Don't do this experiment if you don't know how to use the lighter.
- Do not perform it on carpets or near fabrics and the like.
- If you have long hair, remember to tie it up and keep it away from the flame, as the hair catches fire quickly.
