How To Install The Sims 4 Game (With Pictures)

This article explains how to install The Sims 4 game and the Origin platform client needed to do this on PC and Mac. Unlike previous versions of The Sims game, in order to install The Sims 4 on your computer, you must first install the Origin app even if the game was purchased in physical and not digital format. You need an internet connection to be able to install the Origin client, but you don't need to be online to play The Sims 4.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Windows

Step 1. Visit the URL https://www.origin.com/download using an internet browser

Installing The Sims 4 on a PC requires the installation of the Origin game platform client. This step is also necessary if the game was purchased in physical format, i.e. on DVD.

• The Sims 4 is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7, provided your computer meets the following hardware requirements:

  • 2 GB of RAM as a minimum threshold, but EA recommends having at least 4 GB in order to enjoy the best performance;
  • At least 9 GB of free disk space;
  • If your computer is equipped with a dedicated graphics card, the system processor must be at least an Intel Core 2 Duo or an AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 4000+ (or a processor of equal power). If the graphics card is integrated on the motherboard, then the computer will need to be equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 2.0 GHz or an AMD Turion 64 X2 (or higher model).

  

  Step 2. Click the Download button visible in the "Windows" version box

  This will download the Origin client installation file for Windows to your PC.

  

  Step 3. Double-click the file you just downloaded

  The file will have the following name OriginThinSetup.exe and it should be stored in the default folder for web downloads, which is normally the directory Download.

  

  Step 4. Click on Install Origin

  A list of options will be displayed.

  

  Step 5. Select the installation options, then click the Continue button

  Select or deselect the check buttons visible on the installation procedure screen to choose how the Origin client should behave after the installation is complete. At this point the Origin files will be downloaded and a pop-up window will appear when finished.

  

  Step 6. Click on the Yes button visible in the pop-up window that appeared

  The EA login window will appear.

  

  Step 7. Log in with your EA Games account

  After logging in, the Origin client dashboard will appear allowing you to download EA games.

  If you don't have an EA Games account, click on the tab Create an account of the login window to be able to register a new profile.

  

  Step 8. Install The Sims 4 using an existing product key

  If you haven't purchased a copy of the game yet, skip to the next step. If not, that is, if you have already purchased it, follow these instructions to redeem the product code in your possession:

  • Click on the menu Origin displayed in the upper left corner of the window;
  • Click on the item Redeem product code;
  • Enter the product code for the copy of The Sims 4 you purchased. It is a long alphanumeric code. If you have purchased a physical copy of the game, the code will be present inside the box. If you have purchased the digital version online, the code will be sent to you by e-mail;
  • Click on the button Come on;
  • Insert The Sims 4 installation disc into your PC's optical drive if you purchased the physical version of the game. If you don't have the installation disc, you will be prompted to download the game directly from the web;
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete The Sims 4 installation.

  

  Step 9. Install The Sims 4 by purchasing it directly from the Origin client

  If you've already redeemed your copy of The Sims 4 product key, skip to the next step. If you haven't purchased a copy of the game yet, follow these instructions to install it:

  • Type the search criteria sims 4 in the search bar of the client and press the Enter key;
  • Click on the item The Sims 4 displayed in the search results list. Make sure you select the game and not one of the additional content or item packs. You will need to click on the "The Sims 4" option;
  • Click on the button Get the game;
  • Choose a subscription plan on the EA Play platform or just buy the game by clicking on the "Buy now - [price]" button. You can review all the options available to you by scrolling down the page.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your purchase and download the game.

  

  Step 10. Launch The Sims 4 and start playing

  Once the installation is complete, you will find the game icon in the "Start" menu. Alternatively, you can start the game by accessing the tab My Game Library of the Origin client.

  Method 2 of 2: Mac

  

  Step 1. Visit the URL https://www.origin.com/download using your computer browser

  On Mac, The Sims 4 is only available in digital format, so you'll need to download the installation file to your computer.

  • Purchasing The Sims 4 for any platform (PC or Mac) will give you access to the game version for both PC and Mac. If you have purchased the physical version, the product code inside the box can be used to activate the version. that you will download using the Origin client. If you have not yet purchased the game, you can do so now by visiting this URL:

  • The Sims 4 can run on any Mac running OS X 10.7.5 (Lion) or later that meets the following hardware requirements:

    • Minimum 4 GB RAM, but EA recommends installing at least 8 GB of RAM for best performance;
    • Minimum 14 GB of free disk space;
    • Supported Graphics Cards: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro or later models. The use of the NVIDIA GTX 650 graphics card or a later model is recommended for best results.

    

    Step 2. Click the Download button displayed in the box for the Mac version of the game

    It is placed in the center of the page. This will download the installation file to the default download directory (normally this should be the "Downloads" folder).

    

    Step 3. Double-click the file you just downloaded

    It will be characterized by the extension.dmg. The "Origin" dialog will be displayed.

    

    Step 4. Drag the orange Origin app icon to the "Applications" folder

    This will copy the app to your Mac's "Applications" folder.

    

    Step 5. Install the Origin client

    Launch the Origin app found in the folder Applications, then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Once the installation is complete, you will be prompted to log in to your EA Account by entering your username and password.

    If after trying to open the file a warning message appears, close the window and try again by clicking on the file with the right mouse button and choosing the option You open from the context menu that will appear. When prompted, enter the password you use to log into the Mac to allow the program to be installed.

    

    Step 6. Log in with your EA Games account

    You will be prompted to perform this step after the Origin client installation is complete. After logging in, the Origin client dashboard will appear allowing you to download and install EA games on your Mac.

    If you don't have an EA Games account, click on the tab Create an account of the login window to be able to register a new profile.

    

    Step 7. Install The Sims 4 using an existing product key

    You will only need to perform this step if you have already purchased any version of the game and want to install it on your Mac. Follow these instructions:

    • Click on the menu Origin;
    • Click on the item Redeem product code;
    • Enter the product code for the copy of The Sims 4 you purchased. It is a long alphanumeric code. If you purchased a physical copy of The Sims 4 for Windows, the code will be present inside the box. If you have purchased the digital version online, the code will be sent to you by e-mail;
    • Click on the button Come on and follow the instructions that will appear on the screen. The Sims 4 will now be downloaded and installed on the Mac.

    

    Step 8. Install The Sims 4 by purchasing it directly from the Origin client

    At the end of the installation you will find the icon of the game in the "Applications" folder. Alternatively, you can start the game by accessing the tab My Game Library of the Origin client and selecting the item The Sims 4.
