This article teaches you how to make a monster trap in Minecraft that allows you to collect the items they drop when they die. If you prefer to create a device that allows you to generate monsters on command, you can use a dispenser in Creative Mode to do so.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Preparation
Step 1. Consider using Creative Mode when building the trap
Since mob spawners require a lot of resources and are very easy to fall during construction, you can create them in Creative Mode, then put that Survival back in order to take advantage of them.
In Creative Mode games, trophies are disabled, although you change the difficulty later
Step 2. Learn how the trap works
By building a very high platform you can create a surface where monsters will appear. The latter will reach the overhang in the center of the platform, will fall and die, landing on the hoppers that will transfer the objects obtained in the adjacent chests. When you want to collect your loot, just open the chests.
Step 3. Make sure you build the trap in the biome that houses the monster you want to catch
If you are trying to eliminate a specific type of monster (for example a witch), you must be in the right place (for example, witches are near the water).
Step 4. Find a flat place to build
To avoid breaking the zone, it is best to find a plain for your mob spawner.
Step 5. Gather the necessary resources
You must find or create the following items:
- Twelve stacks of crushed stone (768 total units).
- Eight buckets of water.
- Four hoppers.
- Four small chests.
Part 2 of 4: Building the Tower of the Trap
Step 1. Create the tower
Each side must be two blocks wide and 28 high. This will create a 28 block high tower with a 2x2 empty space in the center.
Step 2. Add a branch on each side of the tower
Place 7 blocks on all sides of the roof. This way you should create 4 side sections of 8 blocks starting from the central hole.
Step 3. Create a wall around each side section
You must build a 2 block high fence on all branches to prevent monsters from jumping out once inside.
Step 4. Fill in the area between the side sections
To increase the area where monsters can spawn, place crushed stone between branches to create a large rectangular platform.
Place the crushed stone blocks at the height of the fences you built to delimit the side sections
Step 5. Create a wall around the entire roof of the trap
It must be at least 2 blocks high, so monsters can't get out.
You can also use a fence for this step
Step 6. Pour the water at the ends of each side section
Select a bucket from your inventory, then empty it into the 2 blocks furthest from the center hole. This will create a flow of water that starts at the bottom of each branch and proceeds towards the center of the trap, stopping just before the hole.
8 blocks is the maximum distance a block of water can run on a flat surface before stopping
Part 3 of 4: Building the Bottom of the Trap
Step 1. Create the collection point
Dig a 2x2 pit 6 blocks deep inside the tower at the bottom. This way the monsters that fall into the tower will end up in this hole.
Step 2. Add 4 hoppers to the bottom of the hole
Select them in the equipment bar, then place them in the 4 blocks at the bottom of the slide.
Step 3. Remove a block under each hopper
This way they will remain suspended in midair.
Step 4. Place the chests under the hoppers
Select them in the equipment bar, then place them in the 4 empty blocks under the hoppers. This way you should create 2 large chests at the bottom of the slide.
Step 5. Create an entry point to the bottom of the trap from the surface
Proceed according to the topography of your world, but in most cases you will have to create a staircase leading to the surface; since you are using 2 large chests you should repeat the step on the other side of the trap as well.
When exploring the bottom of the trap, make sure you have a sword. This way you can finish off the monsters that survive the fall
Step 6. Wait for the monsters to start appearing
It can take a full cycle of day and night before that happens; once you arrive, the chests under the hoppers will start filling up with items dropped by enemies.
Part 4 of 4: Using a Distributor in Creative Mode
Step 1. Learn how this method works
If you are in Creative Mode you can build a simple mechanism that creates monsters based on the commands you choose (which in the game are called "eggs").
You cannot use this method in Survival Mode and monsters will not be produced automatically; it is best suited for creating arena-style encounters or traps
Step 2. Put the necessary items in the inventory
From the creative menu, add the following items to your equipment bar:
- One lever.
- Three redstone powders.
- A distributor.
- A stack (64) of the monster egg of your choice (you can add 2 or more stacks if you want a random distributor).
Step 3. Put the distributor on the ground
Select it from the equipment bar, then place it in the desired spot.
Step 4. Create a line of redstone dust behind the dispenser
Step 5. Place the lever at the end of the redstone line
Activating it you can activate or switch off the vending machine.
At this point you can test the lever by selecting it; if, when you activate it, the redstone lights up, it works and you can turn it off for now
Step 6. Select the distributor
To do this, press, right click or pull the trigger with the left button. The corresponding window will open.
Step 7. Place the monster eggs in the dispenser
Move the egg (or eggs) you want to use into the distributor's inventory.
Step 8. Close the dispenser
Now he is ready to create monsters.
Step 9. Select the lever 2 times
In this way you will activate the dispenser, creating one of the monsters contained in the eggs, then you will turn it off.
- You can repeat the operation to create another monster.
- If there are more types of eggs in the dispenser, the monster created will be random.
Advice
- While it's not impossible to create a mob spawner in Survival Mode, it's very difficult. If you decide to try, make sure you sleep in a nearby bed in case you die.
- Monsters cannot normally survive the fall, but bodies can accumulate to such an extent that the drop is no longer fatal.
