This article explains how to install the Nintendo DS emulator DeSmuMe on a Windows computer or a Mac. DeSmuMe is the only Nintendo DS emulator available for both PC and Mac. In order to run the program, you will need to have a computer running Windows Vista SP2 or a later version; otherwise you will need a Mac running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard or later.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Windows
Step 1. Visit the https://desmume.org website using your computer's internet browser
This is the website from which you can download the DeSmuMe installation file. This is a free Nintendo DS emulator available for Windows and Mac.
In order to use the emulator, you will need to download the ROMs of the individual games. You can find ROMs by doing a simple Google search, but always be very careful - many websites share them illegally. Remember that downloading copyrighted commercial content, such as video games, without first purchasing it is a crime
Step 2. Click the Download link
It should be listed on the right side of the page within the "Pages" section.
Step 3. Download the latest and stable version of the program identified by the Latest Stable Release item for the Windows operating system
It should be clearly indicated at the top of the page.
- If you are not sure if your computer has the minimum hardware requirements to be able to run the program without any problem, you can perform a self-check by clicking on the Download Prerequisite Installer link and running the program.
- Technically savvy users can refer to the builds that are created automatically every night, as they include the most recent updates performed in 2019. The latest stable version of the program has not changed since 2016.
Step 4. Extract the ZIP file you downloaded
The emulator executable file reports the DeSmuMe version number you downloaded in the name.
The contents of the ZIP file are completely safe and reliable, but it is known that it can sometimes be identified by antivirus software as a possible threat. If this is your case, you can continue without any risk, as it is not a virus
Step 5. Run the program file as a computer administrator
Follow these instructions:
- Click on the program file with the right mouse button;
- Select the Properties option;
-
Select the check button
visible at the bottom of the window to run it as a computer administrator.
Step 6. Click on the executable file to start the emulator
At this point, you will need to get the ROMs of the games you want to play. You can download the corresponding files directly from the web, but be careful because some of the sites that publish them are not safe and reliable.
After downloading a ROM, simply double-click the corresponding icon to open it within the emulator
