This article explains how to map the keys on a Windows computer keyboard to perform a function other than the default.
Steps
Step 1. Launch an internet browser on your computer
You can use any browser, for example Firefox, Opera or Chrome.
Step 2. Visit the website https://github.com/randyrants/sharpkeys/releases using your browser
SharpKeys is an open-source program that allows you to map the keys on a Windows computer keyboard.
Step 3. Click on the sharpkeys36.zip link
This is a ZIP file that contains the SharpKeys program installation file.
Step 4. Open the sharpkeys36.zip file on your computer
In order to perform this step, you must have installed on your computer a program such as WinZip, WinRAR or similar
Step 5. Double-click the SharpKeys.exe file
The SharpKeys program will run. The indicated file is stored in the ZIP archive sharpkeys36.zip you downloaded from the web.
When the program's welcome message appears on the screen, click on the button Accept.
Step 6. Click on the Add button
It is located in the lower left corner of the program window. This will allow you to add a new keyboard mapping.
Step 7. Select the button whose functionality you want to change from the left column of the program window
This is the column named "Map this key (From key)".
For example, if you want to change the function of the "Caps Lock" key on your keyboard to act as a space bar, locate and select the entry Caps Lock within the list.
Step 8. Select the new function to assign to the indicated key by scrolling the list in the right column
This is the column labeled "To this key (To key)".
For example if you want the "Caps Lock" key to act as a space bar, locate and select the item Space from the list in the "To this key (To key)" column.
Step 9. Click the OK button
This will save the new keyboard configuration.
Step 10. Click the Write to Registry button
It is located in the lower right corner of the program window. The new key configuration will be entered in the Windows registry.
If you are asked to confirm your action, click on the button OK.
Step 11. Restart your computer
The new keyboard mapping will not take effect until the next computer restart.
