Windows 10 has become a very popular solution for laptops and desktops around the world. If you want to start using it on your system you can resort to a clean installation, in order to remove all unnecessary programs and make your computer faster and hassle-free, thanks to the latest updates. To perform a clean installation of Windows 10 start from the first step.
Steps
Step 1. Check if your computer supports Windows 10
The first thing you need to do when you want to install a new operating system is to know the characteristics of your computer. Make sure it meets the Windows 10 minimum requirements, which are as follows:
- Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster.
- RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit).
- Free disk space: 16 GB.
- Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 compatible graphics device, with WDDM driver.
- A Microsoft account and internet access.
Step 2. Download the Media Creation Tool
You need this tool to download the ISO file and copy it to a DVD. You can find it on the Microsoft site. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will find the download link. Select the appropriate tool based on your processor architecture. To find out if your computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows, follow these steps:
- Right-click on "Computer" on the desktop, then select "Properties".
- Under "System" you can see the type of operating system.
Step 3. Install the Media Creation Tool
You can do this by double clicking on the file you just downloaded. When you see a security warning appear, click "Yes".
- Click the "Create installation media for another PC" button.
- In the following window choose the correct language and version of Windows. Also, select the appropriate architecture for the processor of the PC you want to install Windows 10 on.
- In the next window, choose which media to copy the installation files to. Check the "ISO File" button. This will download an ISO file, a disc image. Select the desired location to save the file when prompted.
Step 4. Copy the ISO file to a DVD
Here's how to do it:
- Find the ISO file you downloaded earlier.
- Right-click on the file and select "Write disk image".
- Select the DVD drive in the "Write Disc" option.
- Click on "Write".

Step 6. Choose your preferred language
Now click on "Install Windows only". Afterwards, format the partition on which the previous operating system was installed.
Step 7. Install Windows 10 on the partition you just formatted and wait for the files to be copied
Note that the computer may restart by itself a few times in the course of the operation.
Step 8. In the following steps choose your settings and enter your personal information
After the installation is complete, Windows will ask you for your email address and your configuration preferences. You can change them as you like, or choose the quick setting to use the default options.
Step 9. After the installation is complete you can use the clean version of Windows 10

Advice
- If you wish, you can also boot the system with a USB drive. The method to follow is the same as described in the article, but you need to select the "USB Flash Drive" option in the tool and boot your computer from the USB drive.
- If you're using Windows 8 or later, hold down the Shift key while restarting. This allows you to select the boot drive without entering the BIOS. Select "Use a device", then the name of the drive you want to use.
