If you routinely share your computer with other people, you will most likely want to create a user profile for each one. This tutorial shows the steps required to create a user account in Windows XP.
Steps
Step 1. Log in to your computer as an administrator
The computer administrator is able to manage all processes and users on the system. A normal user does not have the permissions to create a new user profile without logging on as an administrator first.
Step 2. Go to the 'Start' menu and select the 'Control Panel' item
Here you will find all the administration tools.
Step 3. Select the 'User Account' icon
You will be able to change all settings related to any user profile registered in the system.
Step 4. Select the 'Create New Account' link
Step 5. Type your profile name in the field provided
The username will allow you to distinguish your profile from others. When finished, hit the 'Next' button.
Step 6. Select the type of account you want to create:
administrator or limited. An administrator profile is able to access all computer settings and resources, as opposed to a limited user. Select the relevant radio button, then press the 'Create Account' button.
Step 7. Choose an image for your user profile
You can select an image from those provided or select one of your personal images.
Step 8. This is an optional step
If you wish, you can create a login password by typing that choice. On the contrary, don't type anything.
Advice
- For best results, set your user profile image resolution to 48x48 pixels.
- The quickest way to create a user is to go to the command prompt and type the following command 'net user / ADD' username '' (without quotes).
- If you set a login password, don't forget it! Otherwise you will be forced to delete the user profile.
