This article explains how to uninstall Google Chrome from a computer or mobile device. If you are using an Android device, you will most likely not be able to remove the Google Chrome app, as the latter is the device's default browser. In this case, however, you can disable Chrome to delete the corresponding app from the "Applications" panel.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Windows
Step 1. Close all open Google Chrome windows
Windows will not be able to uninstall the program if it is currently running. Close all running instances of Chrome to avoid errors during the uninstall process.
Step 2. Access the "Start" menu by clicking on the icon
Click on the Windows logo displayed in the lower left corner of the desktop.
Step 3. Launch the Settings app by clicking on the icon
It features a gear and is located at the bottom left of the "Start" menu. The Windows settings menu will appear.
Step 4. Click the App icon
It is listed in the "Settings" window.
Step 5. Scroll down the list to be able to click on the Google Chrome app
The list of apps is sorted alphabetically, so the Google Chrome icon is displayed in the section relating to the letter "G".
If the Chrome app is not displayed in the list, make sure that the latter is sorted by name by clicking on the "Sort by" drop-down menu and select the item First name.
Step 6. Double click on the Uninstall button
Click on the button Uninstall placed in the box of the Google Chrome app, then click again on the "Uninstalled" button in the pop-up that appeared.
Step 7. Click the Yes button when prompted
This will allow Google Chrome to perform the uninstall procedure.
Step 8. Click the Uninstall button when prompted
This will uninstall the Google Chrome app.
- You may need to indicate if you want Chrome history to be cleared as well. If so, select the "Also delete browsing data" checkbox.
- If you get an error message asking you to close the Chrome window before uninstalling, skip to the last step of the section, then try removing the program again.
Step 9. If necessary, force quit the Chrome app
If an error message has appeared that Google Chrome still appears to be running, despite having closed all browser windows, follow these instructions to be able to uninstall the program:
- Press the key combination Ctrl + ⇧ Shift + Esc to open the "Task Manager" system window;
- Click on the tab Processes;
- Click on the Google Chrome listed in the window;
- Click on the button End activity located in the lower right corner of the window.
Method 2 of 4: Mac
Step 1. Close the Google Chrome window
Hold down the Control key while clicking on the Google Chrome app icon displayed on the Mac Dock, then click the button Go out placed in the appeared pop-up.
- If the Google Chrome window is already closed, the option Go out it will not be visible in the menu that appears.
- He may have to confirm your action.
Step 2. Open a Finder window by clicking on the icon
It features a blue smiley and is placed on the Mac Dock.
Step 3. Click on the Go menu
It is displayed at the top of the Mac screen. A list of options will appear.
Step 4. Click on the Applications item
It is one of the options listed in the drop-down menu that appeared. The list of applications installed on the Mac will be displayed.
Step 5. Locate the Google Chrome app
It has a circular shape and is colored red, green and yellow with a blue sphere in the center. You may need to scroll down to find it.
Step 6. Move the Google Chrome icon to the system trash
Drag it to the trash can icon displayed in the lower right corner of the screen, then release the mouse or trackpad button. This way, Chrome will be removed from the Mac.
If an error message appears stating that the Chrome app is still running, read the last step in this section before trying to remove the program from your Mac again
Step 7. If necessary, force quit the Chrome app
If an error message appeared that Google Chrome is still running despite having closed all browser windows, follow these instructions to be able to uninstall the program:
- Press the key combination ⌥ Option + ⌘ Command + Esc;
- Select the app of Google Chrome listed in the pop-up that appeared;
- Click on the button Forced exit in the lower right corner of the window;
- Click the button again Forced exit when required.
Method 3 of 4: iPhone
Step 1. Locate the Chrome app icon
It has a circular shape and is characterized by the colors red, yellow and green with a blue sphere in the center.
Step 2. Press and hold your finger on the Google Chrome icon
After a second, the application icon will start vibrating.
Step 3. Tap the X-shaped badge
It's located in the upper left corner of the Google Chrome app.
Step 4. Press the Delete button when prompted
It is red in color and located on the right side of the pop-up that appeared. This will delete the Chrome app from the iPhone.
This procedure also works for iPad or iPod touch
Method 4 of 4: Android devices
Step 1. Launch the Android Settings app
Swipe down on the screen starting from the top, then tap the "Settings" icon
in the shape of a gear placed in the upper right corner of the panel that appeared.
On some Android devices, you will need to use two fingers to open the notification and quick settings bar
Step 2. Select the App item
It is listed in the "Settings" menu. The list of all applications installed on the device will be displayed.
Step 3. Locate and select the Chrome app
Scroll down the list until you find the round red, green, yellow and blue Chrome icon, then select it with your finger.
Step 4. Press the Uninstall button
It is located at the top of the screen, under the application name ("Google Chrome").
If there is a "Disable" button, it means that the Google Chrome app cannot be uninstalled from the device. In this case you can only disable it, so that it is no longer visible in the "Applications" panel and cannot be run in the background. Push the button Disable, then confirm your action by pressing the button again Disable when required.
Step 5. Press the Uninstall button when prompted
This way, the Chrome app will be removed from your Android device.
