This article explains how to set the profile picture for a YouTube account. Since the YouTube platform is part of Google, your Google account profile picture will be the same as the YouTube account.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Using a Computer
Step 1. Visit the website https://www.youtube.com using an internet browser
You can use a PC or a Mac and the browser of your choice.
Step 2. Log into your YouTube account
If the login to your YouTube account does not happen automatically, click on the blue button Log in located in the upper right corner of the main YouTube page, then select the Google account associated with your YouTube profile.
If no Google account appears to be able to login to YouTube, click on the option Use another account and log in by entering the e-mail address and password of the profile relating to your YouTube account.
Step 3. Click on the icon located in the upper right corner of the page
This is where your profile picture will be visible. If you haven't set up a profile photo yet, the icon will have your name initial on a colored background. By clicking on it, your YouTube account menu will be displayed.
Step 4. Click on the entry
Settings.
It is listed at the bottom of the pop-up menu that appeared. It features a gear icon.
Step 5. Click the Edit on Google link
It is located next to your name and current YouTube profile picture, visible in the upper center of the "Settings" menu. The "Personal Information" page of your Google account will be displayed.
Step 6. Click on the circular camera icon
In the center of the page, your current profile image is visible. In case you have not yet set a profile picture, the icon will be characterized by the initial of your name placed on a colored background. Click on the white camera icon visible on the one with your profile picture or initial of your name to open the "Select profile photo" window.
Step 7. Click the Select a photo from your computer button
It is located in the center of the "Upload Photo" tab of the "Select Profile Photo" window. This will bring up your computer's file manager window that you can use to choose the photo to upload.
Step 8. Select an image and click the Open button
Use your computer's file manager to navigate to the folder where the photo you want to set as your YouTube profile picture is stored. Several folders are listed in the left pane of the window. Click on the name of the image you want to select, then click the button You open located in the lower right corner.
- Make sure the image you want to use as your YouTube profile photo is stored on your computer.
- Alternatively, if the photo is already on your Google account, click on the "Your photos" tab in the "Select profile photo" window to be able to choose from those displayed.
Step 9. Click the Set as Profile Photo button
It is located in the lower left corner of the "Select Profile Photo" window. This way, the changes will be saved and applied to your Google account. The photo you have chosen will be used as the profile picture of all your Google accounts, including the YouTube one.
Method 2 of 3: Using an iOS Device
Step 1. Launch the YouTube app
It features a red television screen icon with the "Play" button symbol in the center. Tap it to launch the app on your device.
If you are not automatically redirected to the main page of your YouTube account, tap the icon depicting a stylized human silhouette, located in the upper right corner of the screen, then select the Google account associated with your YouTube profile. If the account of your interest is not listed in the list of those available, choose the item Add account, then log in by entering your YouTube profile email address and password.
Step 2. Tap the icon located in the upper right corner of the screen
This is where your profile picture will be visible. If you haven't set up a profile photo yet, the icon will have your name initial on a colored background.
Step 3. Select your name
It is located under your current profile picture visible at the top of the "Account" menu. The list of accounts you can use to login will be displayed.
Step 4. Select the icon
It has a cog and is located in the upper right corner of the "Account" menu. The "Account Management" page will be displayed.
Step 5. Select the account you want to set a profile picture for
A new menu will appear for the chosen account.
Step 6. Choose the Update Photos item
It is the blue link under your name and the email address associated with your Google account visible at the top of the page.
Step 7. Select the Set Profile Photo option
It is the blue link located in the lower right corner of the pop-up that appeared.
Step 8. Choose the Take Photo option or Photo library.
If you want to take a snapshot now using the device's camera, choose the option Take a picture. If you want to select an existing image instead, choose the option Photo library.
If you are asked to allow the YouTube app to access your device's media gallery, tap the button Allow.
Step 9. Select an existing photo or capture a new one
If you have chosen to take a photo, press the circular button located at the bottom of the screen, then choose the option Use photos. Alternatively, select the album Camera roll and tap the photo you want to use as your YouTube profile picture.
Method 3 of 3: Using an Android Device
Step 1. Launch the Google app
It features a red, yellow, green, and blue letter "G" icon. You can find it on your device's Home, in the Google folder or in the "Applications" panel.
Step 2. Select the More… tab
It is visible in the lower right corner of the screen. It features an icon with three horizontally aligned dots.
Step 3. Tap your name and email address
They are visible in the upper left of the "Other" tab.
Step 4. Select the Google account associated with your YouTube profile
If the Google account you're signed in with on your device is different from the one associated with YouTube, select the profile associated with the YouTube account listed in the menu.
If the account you want to use isn't listed, select the option Use another account, then log in with the corresponding email address and password.
Step 5. Press the blue Manage Google Account button
It is located below the name and email address visible at the top of the screen. Your Google account menu will appear.
Step 6. Select the Personal Information tab
It is the second tab visible at the top of the screen. This is where you can change your personal data.
Step 7. Select the Photo item
It is the first option listed on the "Personal Information" tab.
Step 8. Tap your profile icon
This is the round icon above your name. Show your current profile picture if you've already set one, or your name's initial on a colored background. You will be redirected to the "Choose a photo" menu.
Step 9. Select the Upload Photos option
It is the first option, located in the upper left corner, of the "Choose a photo" tab. The list of applications you can use to choose the photo to upload will be displayed.
If the photo you want to use as your profile picture is already stored in your Google account, it should be visible in the "Choose a photo" tab, so you just need to select it
Step 10. Choose the Capture Image option or Archive.
If you want to take a photo using your device's camera, choose the option Acquire Image, then tap the app Camera. To take a photo, press the white button located at the bottom of the screen. Instead, if you want to use one of the images already in the device gallery, select the option Archive or Tunnel, then tap the photo you want to use as your profile picture.
If you are asked to authorize the Google app to access your device's media gallery or camera, press the button Allow.
Step 11. Press the Finish button
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen. This way, the selected photo will be set as your Google and YouTube account profile picture.
