This guide will teach you how to set up an internet connection on your PC using a dial-up modem. In addition, it will explain in detail how to create an internet connection and set it up correctly by accessing the Control Panel. The last step will be to connect the PC to the internet / Internet Explorer. After following all the listed instructions, you will be able to perform various operations including surfing the internet, checking your email account or creating a new account, browsing eBay, etc.
Steps
Step 1. Call a web service provider (Telecom, Wind Infostrada, Tiscali etc
) to enable internet connection. The customer service agent should provide you with a username, phone number and password with which to log into the service securely.
Step 2. Make sure your PC is connected
Connect the two ends of the telephone cable to the back of the PC and to the telephone socket located on the wall of the room you are in. Turn on your PC.
Step 3. Log in to the Control Panel
Once the PC starts up, you should see the main desktop screen and the various icons on the screen. Click on the "My Computer" folder. You will find the "More" link on the left panel of the screen. Click on the link, a window will appear in which there will be 4 elements. Click on "Control Panel".
Step 4. Go to "Network Connections"
There will be various icons in the Control Panel. The Control Panel allows you to change your computer settings and perform various operations, including adding new programs, changing the pointer icon, adding a new user to your computer or, in the case of this article, creating / editing your account of the internet. In Control Panel, look for the "Network Connections" icon. Double click on the icon to access this section.
Step 5. Create a new connection
Nothing is displayed on this screen. Look at the top left of the screen, you should find the "Network Activity" tab. Open this tab and click on "Create a new connection".
Step 6. A window will appear, click on the "Next" button
Step 7. You will have to choose between 4 options
Since you want to set up a dial-up connection, click on "Connect to the Internet", and then on the "Next" button.
Step 8. You will be offered 3 options, click on "Set up connection manually", then click "Next"
Step 9. 3 more options will appear, click on "Dial-up modem connection" and then on the "Next" button
Step 10. You will be asked to enter the name of the internet service provider
You can assign any name you want (e.g. your first name, last name, nickname etc.). Enter the name of the service provider, then click the "Next" button.
Step 11. At this point you will need to enter a phone number (the number will be the one provided by the customer service operator, referred to in step 1)
Enter your phone number and click on the "Next" button.
Step 12. 3 fields will be displayed, one is for the username and the other two for the password
Enter your username and password (provided by the internet provider referred to in Step 1). After completing the 3 fields, click on the "Next" button.
Step 13. The installation wizard will inform you that you have completed the internet connection setup
Click on the "Finish" button.
