You can sign up for a Google Classroom session as a teacher or student by logging into the application and entering the information associated with your account. However, for you to be able to access Classroom, your school should first have signed up with a G Suite For Education account. You will also need to log in to Google Chrome using your institution's credentials.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Sign up on Google Classroom
Step 1. Open a blank page in Google Chrome
If you don't have Google Chrome installed on your computer, you can download it for free from any other browser.
Step 2. Click on the "People" tab in the upper right corner
This tab is located next to the "Minimize" button and features a human silhouette.
If someone is already signed in on Chrome, you'll see their name instead
Step 3. Click on the "Log in to Chrome" option
You will then be prompted to enter the credentials of the account you wish to use.
If a user is already logged in to Chrome, click "Use another account" instead
Step 4. Enter the Gmail address your school assigned to you, then click "Next"
Remember that you cannot use your own personal email address, as you can log into Google Classroom using only a school-affiliated email.
Your school address should be similar to the following: [email protected]
Step 5. Enter your password
You must use the password associated with your school's Gmail account.
Step 6. Click on "Login" to login to Chrome with these credentials
This will take you back to the Google home page.
Step 7. Log in to the Google Classroom application
To do this, click on the link indicated. Remember that you must have a school email address available to log into Classroom.
You can also open a blank tab in Chrome and click on the "Apps" menu in the upper left corner of the toolbar. Then, click on "Web Store" at the bottom of the page and type in "Google Classroom". In this section, click on the right application to install and access Classroom
Step 8. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Student" or "Teacher" button
Depending on your role, you will be redirected to a page that will allow you to set up a course (if you are a teacher) or to a box where you will have to enter the course code (if you are a student).
Step 9. Enter the course code if you are a student
Your teacher should have given you this code before the course starts.
Step 10. Click on "Register for course" to join
At this point, you will have successfully registered on Google Classroom.
Method 2 of 2: Sign up for G Suite For Education
Step 1. Open a blank page in Google Chrome
To access Google Classroom, you will need to register your school's website (also called "domain") information on the G Suite For Education site, which is a program with free educational tools and applications for teachers.
Step 2. Visit the G Suite for Education site
The Google Apps for Education (GAFE) program allows you to use various applications (such as Classroom) developed by Google for free to support teachers.
Step 3. Click on "Download G Suite for free" at the bottom of the page
This blue button is located almost at the bottom of the screen. It will redirect you to a page where you can create an account.
Step 4. Click on the blue "Get Started" button
It is located next to the "Order on our site" option.
Step 5. Accept or decline Google support in the pop-up
By clicking on the gray "I will need help" button, you will be offered assistance during the process. Instead, the blue "Got it" button will let you set up the account yourself.
Step 6. Click "Yes, let's get started" in the pop-up
You must have access to your school's web domain to set up G Suite, so make sure you have this type of information available to you.
Step 7. Click on the shopping cart symbol in the upper right corner of the screen
Once a pop-up with "G Suite has been added to cart" appears on the right side of the screen, you can start setting up your account from the cart.
Step 8. Click on the blue "Set Productivity Tools" button
It is located in the lower right corner of the screen, directly under the heading "Subtotal € 0.00".
Step 9. Enter your school details in the corresponding fields
They include your name, institution name and address, and other information.
Step 10. Click "Next" to continue
This will open the domain page.
Step 11. Enter your school's official domain
If you don't have this information, contact the computer science department of the institution.
Step 12. Click "Next" to continue
This will redirect you to a page where you can create the administrator account.
Step 13. Fill out the administrator account page
You will need to provide the administrator email address, password and credentials. This will allow you to become the manager of the administrator account.
Step 14. Click on "Accept and create account"
Do this after reading the terms and conditions of your account. This will create a profile on G Suite For Education.
Step 15. Visit the Administration Console
You will still need to verify that your website and email services belong to an eligible institution.
Step 16. Click on "Add Account", then enter the email address of your administrator account
It should be the email address you just created.
Step 17. Enter your administrator account password, then click "Login"
You will be directed to the Administration Console, from which you can verify that your school domain belongs to a non-profit education service.
Step 18. Click on the "Verify Domain" button to start the verification process
It can take Google a week or two to verify your school's domain.
