The ACT is a standardized test that is used roughly for the same purposes as the SAT. To be able to take it, however, it is necessary to register. There are a couple of ways to do this.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: On the Net
Step 1. Go to the official website of the American College Test (ACT)
From here you can directly access the registration area of the ACT. If you live outside the United States, you must consult the page dedicated to foreigners.
Step 2. Create an account
This account will also allow you to view and submit your score, so it's a good investment of your time. It is also free. Even if you don't want to register right now, still open your account.
Step 3. Click on "Register Now
. You will have to answer a series of questions. Answer as accurately as possible. There are many pages, but they are all important. Make sure you complete them all.
Method 2 of 3: Via Post
Step 1. Request the registration package from your guidance counselor (if you live in the US)
If the consultant cannot provide it to you or you are self-taught at home, you can request one online on the official website.
Step 2. Fill in the forms and send the package
You can do this by post or fax, but make sure you send it well in advance considering the delivery time. The ACT website suggests calculating 7 to 10 days.
Method 3 of 3: Standby Testing
Step 1. Sign up early
If you forget to register within the deadline, you can still take the test, as long as there are places available at a test center. Standby testing is not the ideal solution for this exam, however, as standby testers have to pay more and wait longer to get their scores. Remember to register early, before the deadline expires.
Step 2. Choose a large test center
In larger centers you will have a better chance of finding a place. If you have time, do some research before you leave.
Step 3. Get there early
Test seats are assigned in order of arrival, so arriving early increases your chances of getting a seat.
Step 4. Ask the organizer if there is a seat for you
He will provide you with the registration sheet and instructions. If you don't get any guidance, ask for clarification. You don't want to make a registration mistake and find out a few months later that the test was invalid?
Advice
- There are some preparation tests on the ACT website. You will find questionnaires to practice and a complete test. They are free and very useful texts. Make sure you study them thoroughly before the test if possible.
- It is usually better to register online rather than send it by post. Registration forms are sometimes lost in the post office. Online registration is safe and easy, plus you will also end up with an account, which is very useful for viewing your scores in the future.
- Make sure you choose a secure password for your account on the ACT website. This account contains a lot of personal information that you definitely don't want to divulge. It could also contain the social security number.
