This article teaches you to check if the used iPhone cell phone you bought has been stolen by looking at the online records of IMEI and MEID codes. The methods described do not provide an absolute guarantee, because the previous owner must have reported the theft or activated a lock function on the device.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Finding the IMEI and MEID of the Phone
Step 1. Open the iPhone settings application
Step 2. Tap the General button
Step 3. Select Information
Step 4. Scroll the screen down
Step 5. Find the IMEI and MEID codes
Part 2 of 3: Check the "Stolen Phone Checker" Registry
Step 1. Access the site https://stolenphonechecker.org/ through an internet browser
This online page (in English) is a public utility service to reduce the number of stolen mobile phones.
Step 2. Click on Consumer
Step 3. Enter the IMEI code of the device
Step 4. Check the I'm not a robot box and click on SUBMIT.
By doing this you can view the search results.
Step 5. Select BACK
You can find this button at the bottom of the window.
Step 6. Click on Consumer
Step 7. Enter the iPhone MEID
Step 8. Check the I'm not a robot box and click SUBMIT.
The results will appear on the monitor.
Part 3 of 3: Visit the "Swappa.com" Site
Step 1. Visit https://swappa.com/esn using an internet browser
This is a commercial site that has a "black-list" of all cell theft reports.
Step 2. Enter the IMEI code of the device
You have to write it in the field labeled "ESN / IMEI / MEID" and located at the top of the window.
Step 3. Click Check ESN
You can view the results in the center of the page.
Step 4. Enter the MEID code
Again, use the "ESN / IMEI / MEID" field at the top of the page.
Step 5. Select Check ESN
The results are shown in the central part of the screen.
