This article explains how to use the Facebook Marketplace to explore the items, services, jobs, and rentals available on an iPhone or iPad.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Explore and Buy
Step 1. Open Facebook on your device
The icon is represented by a white "f" in a blue square. It is usually found on the Home screen.
Step 2. Press the ≡ menu
It is located in the lower right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Tap Marketplace
This option is almost at the top of the menu, although you have to scroll down slightly to see it. Look for the gray and green icon that depicts a shop window.
If you don't see this option, you may need to tap "More"
Step 4. Set the location (optional)
The Marketplace will automatically show items for sale near the location you added to your Facebook account. To change the location, tap the "Edit" button next to the "Today's Recommended Products" heading.
Step 5. Tap Buy
A list of categories will appear.
If you are looking for something in particular, tap the "Search Marketplace" bar at the top of the screen, type in the terms you are interested in, and then tap the arrow to start the search
Step 6. Select a category
In addition to items and vehicles, you can also explore listings for services (like plumbers and lawyers), vacancies, rentals, buying and selling groups, and recommended products of the day.
- To review nearby listings, tap Nearby, then select a category to see what products and services are available.
- To browse the vehicles for sale, tap "Vehicles", then select the desired filters (make, type of vehicle, price) to see the ads.
- Browsing for jobs, services and rentals is easy. Just select a category and then refine your results using the drop-down menus at the top of the list.
Step 7. Tap an ad to find out more
All details regarding the selected item or service will be displayed.
- Swipe left on an item's main photo to see more images (if available).
- Scroll down to see the description, price set, location of the item on the map, and information about the seller / owner.
- If you are exploring services, you will need to select the type of service you are looking for specifically (for example, wedding planning or air conditioning services) for a list of professionals to appear.
Step 8. Contact the seller or owner
The steps to follow depend on the type of ad:
- If you are interested in an item, tap "Is it still available?" (below the photo). This will send a message to the seller asking if the item is still on sale.
- If you want to ask a more specific question about an item or make an offer, tap "Message" to write one.
- To apply for a job, tap "Apply Now".
- To contact a property owner to find out more about a rental or home for sale, tap "Contact".
Step 9. Save an article for later viewing (optional)
If you are not sure if you want to buy it (or just want to save it to find it easily later), tap "Save" under the photo of the item to bookmark it.
To see your saved items, go back to the main Marketplace page, press the "You" option and then tap "Saved Products"
Method 2 of 4: Post an Ad to Sell an Item
Step 1. Open Facebook on your device
The icon is represented by a blue square with a white "f" inside. It is usually found on the Home screen.
Step 2. Press the menu ≡ in the lower right corner of the screen
Step 3. Tap Marketplace
It is located almost at the top of the menu, although you may have to scroll down slightly to see this option. Look for the green and gray icon depicting a shop window.
If you don't see this option, you may need to tap "More"
Step 4. Tap Sell
It is the first button on the white bar at the top of the screen.
Step 5. Tap Articles or Vehicles.
If you are planning to sell a vehicle, the camera roll should automatically appear.
Step 6. Tap Add Photo (for an item other than a vehicle)
It is located in the box at the top of the screen.
Step 7. Select photo of the item or vehicle
Tapping a photo will select it and a number will appear in the upper right corner of each chosen image. Tap the photos in the order you want them to appear in the ad.
Step 8. Tap Next
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 9. Enter the details of the article
Scroll down and fill out the entire form.
- If you want to sell an item other than a vehicle, enter a descriptive title in the "What do you sell?" Box. Add the price, choose at least one category and fill out the rest of the form as needed. Make sure to verify that the location is correct.
- If you are planning to sell a vehicle, choose the category, year, make, model and type of transmission. Enter your mileage, tap "Next" and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the announcement.
Step 10. Tap Publish
The article will thus appear in the results of searches carried out in the surrounding area.
- Selling on the Facebook Marketplace is like doing an offline business transaction. You can exchange an asset for money in any way you like.
- To respond to a potential buyer, open the Marketplace, then tap "You", "Your Ads" and the message you received.
Method 3 of 4: Edit an Ad
Step 1. Open Facebook on your device

Step 4. Tap You
It is located at the top of the screen.
Step 5. Tap Your Ads in the menu
The list of items you have put up for sale will appear.
Step 6. Tap ⋯ on the article
A menu will appear.
Step 7. Press Edit Ad
An editable version of the ad will appear. Make any necessary changes and be sure to save them.
Method 4 of 4: Marking an Item as Sold
Step 1. Open Facebook on your device

Step 3. Tap Marketplace

Step 5. Tap Sale
The list of items for sale will appear.
Step 6. Tap ⋯ on the item you sold
Step 7. Press Mark as Sold
Once you have indicated that this item has been sold, you should no longer receive questions from potential buyers.
