This article explains how to install and use the TikTok application on an iPhone or iPad.
Steps
Part 1 of 6: Install TikTok
Step 1. Open the App Store
on your device.
This application is usually found on the main screen.
Step 2. Tap Search
This button is represented by a magnifying glass located at the bottom right.
Step 3. Type TikTok in the search bar
A list of relevant results will appear.
Step 4. Tap TikTok
The icon is a white musical note on a black background.
Step 5. Tap Get
The App Store menu will expand.
Step 6. Enter your passcode or use Touch ID to confirm
This operation is not required at all. This will start the download of the application, which will be installed on the device.
Part 2 of 6: Creating an Account
Step 1. Open TikTok
The icon is represented by a white musical note on a black background. It is usually located on the main screen.
Step 2. Tap Create Account
Do you already have an account? Tap Sign in and skip this section
Step 3. Select a subscription method
You can create a profile using your own telephone number, email address or account Facebook, Instagram or Google.
Step 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to register your account
These steps vary depending on the enrollment mode selected. Read the next step when you get to the screen asking "What is your date of birth?".
If you use a social network, you will be prompted to log in and give your authorization
Step 5. Select your date of birth
Swipe the date picker to indicate the day, month and year of birth. Then, tap the arrow at the bottom right to continue.
Part 3 of 6: Finding and Watching Videos
Step 1. Open the TikTok feed
This is the TikTok home screen. A list of videos will appear that you can scroll through. The feed is the screen that appears as soon as the application is opened.
If you're visiting another section of TikTok, tap the house icon on the bottom left to return to the feed
Step 2. Tap the Followed tab
It is located in the upper left. This will show you the videos made by the people you follow.
Step 3. Tap the For You tab
It is located at the top right. You will be shown trending, suggested or popular videos.
Step 4. Swipe your finger across the screen to see the feed you have selected
As you swipe up, the videos on the feed will start playing automatically.
If you don't like a video you see in the For You feed, tap and hold the screen until the broken heart icon appears, then tap "I don't care." You will see fewer videos of this type in the future
Step 5. Tap the heart symbol to indicate that you like a video
This icon is located on the right side of the video. After you indicate that you like a video, it will turn pink.
Step 6. Tap the dialog bubble icon to leave a comment
By tapping this icon, comments written by other users will appear. To leave one, tap "Add a comment". Then, type your message and tap "Send".
Step 7. Share a video to another application
You can share TikTok videos on other social networks by tapping the "Share" icon at the bottom right. Select one of the apps or tap "Copy Link" to paste the URL into it.
Step 8. Tap the magnifying glass icon to search for more videos
It is located at the bottom left. In this section, you can browse various categories, see trends or type one or more keywords in the search bar at the top of the screen.
Step 9. Search for a person or a hashtag
Type one or more keywords in the search bar at the top of the screen, then tap "Search" on the keyboard.
Step 10. Tap the dialog bubble icon to see your notifications
You will receive a new notification every time your followers interact with your videos or post new content.

Part 4 of 6: Finding People to Follow
Step 1. Follow a user from the feed
If you find a video you like in the feed and want to follow the user, tap their username at the bottom left (on the clip description). Then, tap Follow on their profile.
Step 2. Search for a user using their name
Here's how to find a person if you know their name:
- Tap the magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen to open the search page;
- Tap "Search" at the top of the screen;
- Enter the name or username of this person and tap the "Search" button;
- Tap this user's name or photo to open their profile;
- Tap Follow.
Step 3. Follow the people you have in your address book
Here's how to know which of your contacts are on TikTok:
- Tap the human silhouette icon at the bottom right;
- Touch the human silhouette icon flanked by the "+" sign at the top left;
- Tap "Find Contacts". If the contacts you have in your address book use TikTok, they will appear on this screen and you will be given the option to follow them.
- Tap the Follow button next to the name of each person you want to start following.
- If it's not on TikTok, you can also tap Invite.
Step 4. Follow Facebook contacts
Here's how to find and follow the friends you have on this platform:
- Tap the human silhouette icon at the bottom right;
- Touch the human silhouette icon flanked by the "+" sign at the top left;
- Tap "Search Facebook friends";
- Follow the on-screen instructions to log into your Facebook account;
- Authorize the application to access your contacts;
- Tap the Follow button next to all users you want to follow;
- If a user isn't on TikTok, you can also tap the Invite button.
Part 5 of 6: Editing Your Profile
Step 1. Tap the profile icon
It is depicted by a human silhouette and is at the bottom right. Allows you to open your own profile page.
- In this section you can also keep track of the users you follow, your followers and "likes".
- The videos you upload appear at the bottom of the profile.
Step 2. Tap Edit Profile, a red button located more or less in the center of the screen
Step 3. Add a new profile photo
You can take a new photo, upload an existing one, or even use a video. Here's how to upload an image from the gallery:
- Tap "Profile photo" at the top of the screen. A menu will open;
- Tap "Select from gallery";
- Tap the album that contains the photo you want to upload;
- Tap the photo you want to use;
- Select the part of the photo you want to use by dragging the square of the image until it is framed as you like;
- Tap "Done".
Step 4. Change your username
The username is the name by which you are identified by the application. To change it, tap your current name next to "Username" and enter another one.
- The username can only be changed once every 30 days.
- You can also change the nickname (i.e. the name that is displayed) whenever you want. The alias appears at the top of the profile page.
Step 5. Add your Instagram and YouTube accounts
You can perform this procedure if you want other TikTok users to see your profile on these applications.
Step 6. Add a bio
Tap "Biography", write a short description about yourself to share with other users and then tap anywhere on the profile page to leave this section.
Step 7. Tap Save at the top right
Part 6 of 6: Shooting a Video
Step 1. Tap the camera icon
It is located at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2. Tap Add a sound at the top of the screen to find a song to insert into the video
You can do this in two different ways:
- Tap a category (for example, "Hip hop", "Pop", "Trending"), browse the songs and then tap the play button to listen to a preview.
- Type a song title or artist name in the search bar at the top of the screen, then tap the "Search" button. Scroll through the results and tap the play button to hear a preview.
Step 3. Tap the check mark next to the song in order to select it and then open the camera to shoot the video
Step 4. Tap the "Flip" button (optional), which allows you to switch from the front camera (the one you use to take selfies) to the rear (the normal one)
Step 5. Tap the "Beauty" button, whose icon is represented by a magic wand (optional)
This filter allows you to even out the complexion and improve the skin texture during recording.
Step 6. Tap the "Filters" button, which is represented by a colored icon, to select a color or filter for the lighting (optional)
The icon looks like three colored circles and is located on the right side of the screen. Go through the various options and tap the filter you want to insert.
Step 7. Tap the "Effects" button to select a face filter (optional)
These filters, called "Effects", are located to the left of the record button. They allow you to add animations and other cute effects to the face. Scroll through the various options and tap a filter to try it out. When you find one you like, tap anywhere on the screen to close the list.
Step 8. Tap the scissors icon to shorten the music (optional)
If you don't want the song being used to start at the beginning, drag your finger across the waveform at the bottom of the screen to the desired point, then tap the check mark.
Step 9. Tap and hold the record button
The video will be shot for as long as you hold the button down. Remember that movies can be up to 15 seconds long.
- You can stop recording by lifting your finger from the button. Pressing it again will pick up where it left off.
- If you don't want to record for 15 consecutive seconds, you can shoot the video in multiple segments.
- To record without having to press the button, tap the timer icon on the right side of the screen instead of the record button, then tap "Start Shooting".
Step 10. Tap the check mark at the bottom right when you finish shooting the video
At this point, a screen will open that will allow you to make the latest changes.
Step 11. Use the icons at the bottom and top of the screen to edit the video
- Tap the scissors icon to cut the sound;
- Tap the "Volume" button at the top of the screen to change the volume of the music or the recording itself;
- Tap the icon depicting the album cover or artist image in the top right to change the music;
- Tap the clock icon at the bottom left to select a transition, sticker or other effect;
- Tap the cover icon at the bottom of the screen to select a thumbnail;
- Tap "Filters", a colored icon at the bottom of the screen that allows you to change the color or light filter.
Step 12. Tap Next at the bottom right
A section titled "Publish" will open.
Step 13. Enter a title and hashtags
Tap the field at the top of the screen to describe the video. You can use hashtags ("#example") or tag your friends ("@example").
Step 14. Select the audience
By default TikTok settings, the video is public, but you can change this configuration. Tap the "Who can view this video" option and then tap "Private" if you wish.
Step 15. Turn comments on or off
If you want to give the option to comment on the video, tap the "Comments" button to activate it (it will turn green). Tap it again to turn them off (it will turn gray).
Step 16. Tap Publish
This button is pink in color and is located at the bottom right. The video will then be shared on TikTok.
