Since your GroupMe account uses your phone number to confirm your identity, it's important to make sure it matches exactly the phone you use. To change the phone number associated with your GroupMe account, you must first log into the desktop version of the application. At that point the procedure will be quite simple and can be performed on any type of smartphone.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Change the Phone Number
Step 1. Visit the GroupMe website
Step 2. Enter your credentials to login
In the boxes indicated, enter the phone number or email address associated with your account, then enter your password.
If you are already logged in, your conversations page will open immediately
Step 3. Click on "Login"
A window will open showing you all your chats.
Step 4. Click on your avatar
You can find it in the lower left corner of the screen, above the "Settings" icon (represented by a gear). Clicking on it will open your profile.
Step 5. Click on "Edit" next to your phone number
A page will open where you can update the number.
On this page you will also be given the option to change your name, email, password and Facebook. Tap the "Edit" button next to any of these items and follow the on-screen instructions to change them
Step 6. Enter your new phone number
Step 7. Tap "Send"
This will change the number associated with your account.
You can continue to use GroupMe from the phone associated with your old number, but you will need to log in using your email address instead
Method 2 of 2: Change Other Phone Settings
Step 1. Open the settings
The icon looks like a white gear and is located in the lower left corner of the screen.
On the mobile application you can access the settings by tapping the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner. Then, tap on the settings option
Step 2. Turn SMS on or off
If you want to receive or stop receiving SMS from GroupMe when a new message is sent in a group, click or swipe the button next to the "Receive SMS messages" option to turn it on or off.
Step 3. Turn on / off "Like" notifications
On GroupMe, users can "Like" messages sent in a group by tapping the heart icon that appears to the right of the message. If you want to be notified when this happens, click or swipe right on the button next to the "Notification about likes" option so that it turns blue. If you don't want to receive notifications, click or swipe the button to the left so that it turns gray.
Step 4. Send read receipts
If you want your GroupMe contacts to know when you read messages they send you personally or in a group, click or swipe right on the "Send read receipts" button so that it turns blue. If you don't want to receive notifications, click or swipe left to make it gray and deactivate it.
