Some say the best thing to do when lost is to stay calm. Fortunately, when lost, the iPhone behaves in exactly the same way. Unfortunately, however, he does not know how to ask passers-by for help or send smoke signals to be tracked (in fact, if he were noticed by someone, he would probably be stolen). The next time you lose your iPhone and want to try to locate it, use the "Find My iPhone" program.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Prepare your iPhone
Step 1. Select the Settings app on your device's Home screen
Before you can use Location Services to track your iPhone, you need to enable its settings. "Find My iPhone requires" iOS version 5 or later, while the "Lost Mode" feature requires iOS version 6 or later.
Step 2. Select the iCloud option
You will be prompted to sign in with your Apple ID. If you don't have an Apple ID, you'll need to create it before you can access the Find My iPhone program. The account is free.
Step 3. Start the "Find My iPhone" program
In the iCloud menu you will find a lever with the item "Find my iPhone". Slide it to set it to ON. The phone will ask you whether to allow the operation. Select "Allow" to enable the feature.
Step 4. Activate the passcode
You can set the screen lock of your iPhone and enter a 4-digit passcode to be able to access the phone again. To set the passcode, go back to the Settings menu and select "General". In the "General" menu, select "Code lock". Enter the code and confirm the operation.
To unlock the screen, you will be prompted to enter this code again. It is a feature that will prevent strangers from accessing your data in case your phone is lost
Method 2 of 2: Find your iPhone again
Step 1. Open the iCloud website
You can access the iCloud website from any internet browser. You will need to log in with your Apple ID and password. Once logged into iCloud, you will be presented with several options.
Step 2. Open "Find My iPhone"
The icon looks like a radar. You will be prompted to re-enter your Apple ID password. At this point an interface with a map will open. The map will load as soon as a device is located.
Alternatively, you can go directly to the Find My iPhone site by visiting icloud.com/find. You will need to log in again with your Apple ID and password
Step 3. View the list of your devices
Click the devices button in the upper left corner of the screen to see a list of all devices registered on "Find my iPhone". Select the device you want to track to access the options.
- A green dot next to the device indicates that the device is connected. A gray dot, on the other hand, indicates that it is not connected.
- "Find My iPhone" displays the device's last known location for 24 hours.
Step 4. Play a sound on the lost device
If the map indicates that the device is nearby, you can make the device ring by clicking the "Play Sound" button in the options window.
Step 5. Activate Lost Mode
If the device has actually been lost, you can start the localization process via the Lost Mode function by clicking on the button in the options window.
- In case you haven't already set up a passcode for your device, you will be asked to create it. If you have an access code, the Lost Mode function will be activated. For example, if you've configured your passcode to be activated after an hour of inactivity, and you've reported your phone lost after 30 minutes, your device will lock.
- You can add a phone number to contact. It should be a number on which you can be easily reached. The number will be displayed on your phone screen along with a button to automatically call that number.
- You can also add a custom message that will be displayed along with the phone number.
Step 6. Disable Lost Mode
Once you have found the device, you can deactivate the Lost Mode function by entering the access code on the phone, or by clicking on "Stop Lost Mode" on the "Find my iPhone" website.
Step 7. Erase the data on your iPhone
If you believe your phone has been stolen or lost forever, you can remotely wipe all data on your iPhone by clicking the "Erase iPhone" button in the device options menu.
- The data will be permanently erased, so use this option only as a last resort.
- Using this option will disable your phone's GPS tracking.
Step 8. Use another iOS device
You can perform the same operations above using the "Find My iPhone" application on another iOS device, such as an iPad or another iPhone. You will also need to enter your Apple ID and password here.
