Business travel always requires a professional look and demeanor. Most people traveling for work pack their suitcases with freshly ironed suits, shirts, and other clothing. However, suitcases often cause these items of clothing to wrinkle. Instead of going to the hotel's expensive dry cleaning service, you can put in a little more care while packing your clothes so they are ready to wear at their destination. This article will show you how to fold a shirt for a business trip.
Steps
Step 1. Wash your shirt before you leave
If you intend to take it to the laundry, because it may be a rather fine shirt, do it four to seven days before the departure date, to make sure it will be ready for the time you need to pack.
Step 2. Iron the shirt before packing it
Do this carefully, making sure to flatten the sleeves and collar well.
Step 3. Button the shirt completely, including the collar buttons
Step 4. Lay the shirt on a clean, flat surface, such as a dining room table or a large ironing board
Step 5. Lay the shirt out on the table, with the buttoned part resting on the shelf
Step 6. Smooth the shirt so it doesn't get wrinkled anywhere
Pull the seams from one end to the other if you still feel like there are ripples and smooth them out again.
Step 7. Fold a large plastic bag to make a rectangle; it should be roughly the same length as the back of the shirt
A clean clear bag they gave you in the laundry is perfect for this purpose. Place it on top of the shirt, leaving a space approximately equal to the width of the sleeves on each side.
Step 8. Fold the right side of the shirt towards the center until the plastic bag is half covered
Fold the sleeve over this section of the garment.
Step 9. Repeat on the left side of the shirt
A long, thin rectangle should be created, with the cuffs located under the bottom hem of the shirt. Tighten the seams if you notice any wrinkles.
Step 10. Take another clean plastic bag they gave you in the laundry and fold it to make a rectangle
Place it in the middle of the partially folded shirt.
Step 11. Place your hand in the center of the shirt
Use the other to fold the bottom of the garment up, towards the collar, so that the second plastic bag is folded under the shirt.
Step 12. Move the shirt to one end of the table
Take a third envelope and spread it out on the table. Place the partially folded shirt in the center of the envelope, with the buttoned side facing you.
Step 13. Take the right side of the envelope and fold it over the shirt
Then, take the left side of the envelope and fold it over the top of the previously formed layer.
Step 14. After wrapping the shirt with the bag, place it in the suitcase
Put one shirt over the other if you will be wearing several.
Step 15. Once at your destination, take it out of the suitcase and hang it up
Advice
- Do not throw the bags they give you in the laundry, recycle them several times.
- Large pieces of cling film or other types of plastic bags can replace laundry bags to fold the shirt. Airtight sachets are not big enough.
