Keep your aquarium clean and save money by creating your own immersion filter. It really is that simple!
Steps
Step 1. Get the following material:
a sponge or other filter material (make sure it does not contain particular substances such as those contained in car wash sponges, etc.), an open container at the top (for example, the bottom half of a plastic bottle), an immersion pump (for pump power see examples in the "Tips" section), activated carbon and air hoses (must ensure pump flow).
Step 2. Check that the pump dimensions are compatible with the container dimensions and that there is also room for sponge and carbon
Step 3. Pour the activated carbon for chemical filtration into the container
Step 4. Wrap the pump valve with a thin filter material - a pair of nylon tights would be perfect
Step 5. Place the wrapped pump in the container and insert it with light pressure into the activated carbon bottom
Step 6. Put a piece of tubing at the pump outlet:
a 7.5 cm tube or so should suffice.
Step 7. Cut the sponge or filter material to fit it into the container
Make small holes inside the pieces to ensure the passage of the tubes.
Step 8. Fill the container with the sponge making sure that the tubes are able to exit
Step 9. Secure the filter with cords or rubber bands
Step 10. Place the filter in a corner of the aquarium and turn it on
Step 11. Now you can place the first fish
Step 12. Have fun
Advice
- At first you will notice that the filter will only suck up small fragments and stools. Over time, bacteria will begin to form inside the sponge; at that point, the water will also be filtered at the biological level.
- Make sure the pump you have chosen is of the right power - for example a 120 liter per hour pump is fine for a 40 liter freshwater aquarium while a 320 liter per hour pump is fine for a 40 liter marine aquarium. liters.
- If your pump allows for adjustment of the filtration, make sure it is set to the correct values for your aquarium.
- The filter can be inserted halfway into the backdrop to stay stationary, or you can place it standing upright.
Warnings
- Be careful when using electricity.
- Check the filter regularly to make sure it works. A pump malfunction could harm the fish and be harmful to you as well.
