A Hermès scarf is one of the best and most versatile accessories you can have. These handkerchiefs feature a variety of prints and can be worn in multiple ways, always remaining very chic.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Bring the Foulard to the Neck
The most traditional way to wear a Hermès scarf is by wearing it around the neck.
Step 1. Make the scarf smaller
-
Fold the scarf in half lengthwise. Repeat this process three times.
-
Place the center of the long loaf formed by the scarf on the back of the neck and start wrapping it around it.
-
Wrap it once and then knot it on the front, leaving only small tails.
Step 2. Wear the Hermès scarf as if it were a bow
-
Take two scarves and fold them lengthwise until you have two long strands.
-
Tie the two folded scarves together.
-
Wrap the long piece around the neck and tie it under the chin or at one ear as if it were, in fact, a bow.
Step 3. Wear the Hermès scarf as if it were a hood
-
Fold the scarf in half lengthwise and tie the two ends together to create a discreet knot.
-
Place the folded scarf on your head and arrange it softly around your neck; it will fall on your collarbones, resulting in creases.
Step 4. Place the scarf elegantly on your shoulders
You can do this both on a jacket and on a light shirt.
Fold the scarf in half, creating a triangle or a rectangle; the choice is up to you. Taking a look at your outfit and the shape of your body will allow you to understand which fold will do you the most justice
Step 5. Insert the Hermès scarf under the jacket collar
Instead of resting it on your shoulders, you could wear it loosely without folding it, simply turning it under the collar of your jacket.
-
Tighten the scarf lengthwise.
-
Raise the collar of the jacket and arrange the central part of the scarf on the back of your neck.
-
Bring one end of the scarf over the opposite shoulder and repeat with the other, allowing them to create a drape across the front of the jacket.
-
Fold the jacket collar down to complete the look.
Method 2 of 4: Bring the Scarf on the Head
These scarves are perfect to be worn on the head and in the hair.
Step 1. Braid the Hermès scarf with your hair if it is long enough
-
Fold it in half lengthwise and repeat this same fold two or three more times, depending on how thin you want the scarf to be. You should get a scarf with a width of about 5 cm, while the length will remain the same.
-
Place the scarf at the base of the skull and keep your hair tied up as you wrap the scarf neatly around your hair.
-
Knot the scarf, making sure it is placed on the back. Take the ends and the hair to braid them together, using each piece of the scarf as if it were a strand of hair, so that you have two parts made up of the scarf and one of the hair. Secure the end of the braid with the scarf.
Step 2. Turn your Hermès scarf into a headband
-
Start by folding the scarf the same way you would to braid it with your hair.
-
Wrap the scarf around your head as you would a regular headband.
-
Tie it at the nape of the neck, under the hair.
Step 3. Convert the Hermès scarf into a handkerchief
-
Fold the scarf in half, creating a rectangle.
-
Place it on top of the head and tie the ends at the nape of the neck, under the hair.
Step 4. Make a turban headband with the Hermès scarf
-
Start with the folded scarf as indicated in the braid section.
-
Center the scarf at the back of the head.
-
Bring the extremities forward and turn them on themselves for once on the forehead area.
-
Bring the ends back to the back of your head and tie them to tie a knot.
Step 5. Wear the Hermès scarf as a pirate would wear it
-
Fold the scarf in half into a triangle and place it on the head with the folded section arranged at the hairline on the forehead and with the pointed part at the back.
-
Bring the side spikes behind the ears and tie them on the hair, just below the back spike.
Step 6. Use the Hermès scarf to tie the hair
-
Fold the scarf as described in the braid section.
-
Lay the scarf under your hair and pull the ends at the same time to gather the hair into a ponytail.
-
Wrap the scarf around your hair for a few times, as if you were tying it with a ribbon.
-
Tie the ends together under or above the hair.
Method 3 of 4: Wear the Scarf as a Garment
These scarves can be transformed into skirts, sweaters, dresses, belts or shawls. Some looks may require two.
Step 1. Put on the Hermès scarf as if it were a belt
-
Fold the scarf in half lengthwise and repeat until you have created an approximately 5 cm wide loaf.
-
Thread the folded scarf through the belt loops and tie both ends to the hip or front side of your body.
-
If necessary, tie two scarves together and then use them as if they were a belt.
Step 2. Put on the Hermès scarf as if it were the top of a bikini
This type of swimsuit is also called a bandeau.
-
Fold the scarf back to create a long piece.
-
Tie a knot exactly in the center of the scarf. Squeeze it tightly because you will need it to cover your breasts.
-
Wrap the scarf around your chest and create a bow at the end to complete the look.
Step 3. Use the Hermès scarf as if it were a sarong
This garment, also known as a pareo, especially in Tahiti, is essentially a cloth that is wrapped around the body, from the waist down or across the bust. The following method is one of many to use a Hermès scarf as a sort of wrap-around skirt.
-
Fold the scarf in half creating a triangle and place the central part of the folded end to the left, at the height of the waist.
-
Bring the two pointed ends together as you wrap it around your lower body.
-
Tie the scarf on the side.
Method 4 of 4: Wear the Scarf as an Accessory
These scarves can be worn as accessories just like other handkerchiefs, bags and bracelets.
Step 1. Put on the Hermès scarf as if it were a bracelet
If you have a smaller scarf, wrap it around your wrist and tie it in a knot or bow for an unusual yet chic accessory. You may need someone's help to achieve this look.
Step 2. Use the Hermès scarf as if it were a bag
You won't be able to carry your supermarket groceries inside, but it can serve as a clutch for small items.
-
Take two ends of the scarf and tie them together.
-
Raise the other two ends to join the knot created in the previous step.
-
Take the four stitches and tie them together, leaving enough room for your arm to slide.
Step 3. Wrap the Hermès scarf around the bag strap
-
Fold the scarf in half lengthwise a few times to create a long loaf.
-
Tie one end of the scarf to the base of either side of the bag strap.
-
Wrap the belt with the scarf.
-
Tie the loose part of the scarf to the opposite base of the bag strap.
