A triangular scarf can be the final accessory to many outfits and is a must-have for anyone who wants to achieve an eccentric and slightly alternative look. They are quite inexpensive and a lot of fun to wear, and they are usually quite large too and require some care in folding them so that they fit well. Read on to experiment with different types of knots.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: The Triangular Node
Step 1. Form a triangle
Spread the square scarf flat on the floor or on a table in front of you.
Fold it in half diagonally so that it forms a triangle. It doesn't need to be absolutely perfect
Step 2. Grab the two ends of the longer side of the scarf and pull it up
You will hold the smaller corners of the triangle in your hands.
You may want to twist the ends to make them sit still and look more tapered
Step 3. Place the triangular shape on your chest
Bring the two ends behind your neck.
Cross them, so that your left hand holds the right end and your right hand holds the left
Step 4. Twist the extremities so they come in front of your body
They should rest on your chest along with the rest of the scarf.
- It should hang in a triangular shape, with each end tapering to one side. If the scarf is too tight around your neck, simply grab it at the front and loosen it a bit.
- Place the knot as high or low on your chest as you want.
- Remember, the scarf should be relaxed and comfortable to wear.
Method 2 of 4: The Necklace Knot
Step 1. Fold your scarf into a triangle
It's okay to do it by eye, you don't need a surface.
Place the scarf on your chest. It should be more or less centered
Step 2. Grab both spikes and twist them in front of you
They should go around your neck and back in front of you.
- Tie the tips as loosely or tightly as you like.
-
Leave the knot exposed or hide it under the other side of the scarf.
If you choose to leave it exposed, experiment with repositioning it left or right for an asymmetrical look
Step 3. Curl
Your scarf should be quite malleable and will stay in the position you choose.
Depending on the size of your scarf, play with the length of the two layers. The knot could be at the beginning of your neck or below, automatically creating volume
Method 3 of 4: The Vintage Headband
Step 1. Fold two ends of your scarf in the center
It will keep them from falling out when tied around your head.
They can overlap a bit; tying the scarf around the head will obscure any corner in any case
Step 2. Fold the scarf into a strip
There are two ways of doing this:
- it starts on one side until it reaches the other.
- Fold each side a little from time to time until they meet in the center.
Step 3. Fold the strip and wrap it around your head
Start with the scarf at the base of the neck.
If you want a slightly asymmetrical look, start with your head slightly offset from the center of the scarf
Step 4. Cross the ends over each other in front of you
They should meet near the limb part of your forehead. This makes it more stable and less likely to crash. Wrap it tight!
- It should create an intertwined "x" shape.
- Reposition your hair as the shape of the scarf takes shape.
Step 5. Tie the tips
The scarf should rest right behind the line of your hair.
Hide the ends under the first layer of the scarf
Method 4 of 4: Like Cuff
Step 1. Create a cuff
Square scarves can also be worn around the wrists as a cuff.
- To do this, roll out the scarf and fold it into a triangle.
- Grab the center tip of the triangle and fold it in the center, so that the scarf looks like a narrow trapezoidal shape.
Step 2. Place your wrist on one end of the scarf
Use your thumb and forefinger to hold the tip.
- Use the fingers of the hand you are tying it on to hold it steady.
- Hold it tightly around your wrist as you wrap it.
Step 3. Grab the opposite end of the scarf and wrap it tightly around your wrist
When you're done, leave the end you were holding between your thumb and forefinger and tuck both ends under the wrapped scarf
Advice
- These scarves can be bought in various designs and colors. Mix and match them with your clothes to create different outfits and looks.
- A square scarf is an accessory that can be worn by women and men, although for most men they prefer to wear them on the wrist.
- Until you learn how to tie the scarf yourself, get help from a friend (especially if you wear the scarf on your wrist, since doing it with one hand can be difficult the first few times).
