Once in a while it is advisable to do a deep cleansing of the face. The reasons are numerous: you may want to get rid of blackheads, blemishes, or just want fresh, clean skin. There are several different methods to clean the face in a deep way.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Using Steam
Step 1. Clean your face thoroughly
Before doing a steam treatment, you need to wash it well.
- Before proceeding with cleaning, however, it is recommended to wash your hands. Wet them and cover them with the soap foam; scrub them for 20 seconds, paying particular attention to the fingers, the area under the nails and the back. To keep track of time, you can hum the song "Happy Birthday" twice. When finished, rinse them thoroughly and dry them with a clean cloth or disposable paper towel.
- Use a mild soap to limit the amount of oils and chemicals, and use lukewarm water.
- If you are used to applying makeup, be sure to remove it completely before starting the steam treatment. Cosmetics clog pores, causing acne; it is therefore recommended to proceed with the steam before using make-up.
Step 2. Heat a pot of water
Fill it with water and heat it on the stove. Only bring it to the temperature sufficient for steam to form; you don't have to boil it, otherwise you will burn your face.
Step 3. Add the oils
You can incorporate essential oils to facilitate the cleansing process and provide nutrients to the skin.
- If you are dealing with pimples or acne, use bergamot oil which has antiviral, antibacterial properties and can control breakouts. Geranium oil is excellent for increasing elasticity and regulating sebum production; tea tree is known to eliminate bacterial acne. If you are prone to frequent breakouts, lemon oil can shrink pores and reduce the chances of acne breakouts.
- If you are looking to improve the appearance of the skin, you have several options. Lavender oil can make it brighter and reduce the visibility of blemishes and scars; that of carrot seeds helps rejuvenate the epidermis and promotes cell regeneration; myrrh has some anti-aging properties that can give the face a more youthful and blemish-free appearance.
- To increase the moisturizing effect of the steam you can add mint and green tea, even if they are not essential oils.
Step 4. Tilt your head towards the water
When the water is steaming and after adding the essential oils to your liking, wrap your head in a towel and bring it over the pot. Let the steam cover your entire face; however, don't lean too far forward, as you don't have to touch the water which is really very hot. If the steam is too hot and you are concerned that your face may get burned, wait a few minutes and let it cool down a bit before starting the treatment.
Step 5. Rinse and moisturize your face
After 10 minutes, you can wash it.
- Remove the towel and discard the water from the pot.
- Wash your face with cold water; you should thus remove some dead cells, dirt and residues that have surfaced during cleaning.
- Use a clean cloth to pat dry your face.
- Finally, apply a moisturizer to restore the skin's natural moisture.
Method 2 of 4: Cleaning with Oil
Step 1. Make a blend of castor and extra virgin olive oil
Both are able to deeply clean the pores, moisturize the face and prevent breakouts.
- Mix castor oil with olive oil in a ratio of 1: 4; this means putting 1 part of castor oil and 4 part of olive oil. For example, you can use 1 teaspoon of castor oil and 4 teaspoons of the other; if you decide to use 2 teaspoons of castor oil instead, you have to add 8 more and so on.
- Mix them both thoroughly in a bowl.
Step 2. Massage the mixture on your face
Apply the product on the face by performing a gentle massage with circular movements, having been careful to wash your hands beforehand; be sure to spread the mixture all over your face, without neglecting any part.
Step 3. Place a warm, damp washcloth on your face three times
To make the treatment effective it is necessary to moisten the face with hot water in three distinct moments.
- Dip a towel in hot water. Since you have to apply it directly to your face, the water should be warm enough to touch, but not hot; be careful not to burn yourself.
- Place the washcloth on your face and leave it in place until it cools.
- Repeat this procedure two more times.
Step 4. Get rid of the oil
Use a clean towel or disposable paper towels and gently rub your face to get rid of any residual oil and water. your skin should now look healthier, while the blemishes and scars should have faded.
Method 3 of 4: Exfoliation Treatment
Step 1. Purchase an exfoliating face scrub
It is a product that you can easily find in major supermarkets, pharmacies and cosmetic stores. It is usually made up of microgranules that remove dead cells and dirt.
- Prices can vary, some scrubs are quite expensive and you can find them for even 25 euros, while others can cost less than 10 euros. Do some research online or in specialized magazines to find reviews that can help you make a well-thought-out decision and choose the right product for you.
- Exfoliating scrubs are criticized by environmentalists; many of these are in fact made up of disposable plastic microgranules, which pollute groundwater and other bodies of water. If you are an environmentally conscious person, you may want to consider making environmentally friendly scrubs at home.
Step 2. Make a sugar and raw honey exfoliant
A simple scrub mask based on these two ingredients is very effective and easy to prepare. If you are on a tight budget or are concerned about the pollutants contained in some commercial scrubs, this is your best bet.
In general, combine the two ingredients in equal parts, mix well to blend them, and place the mixture in an airtight container at room temperature
Step 3. Apply the exfoliant in circular motions
Apply the scrub of your choice and rub the mixture into the skin by moving your fingers in a circle. Continue in this way for about two minutes gently; the sugar micro-granules should exfoliate the epidermis without the need for excessive pressure.
Step 4. When finished, wash your face to remove the concoction and apply a moisturizer
After two minutes of treatment, it is important to remove the residues with a wash.
- Use cold water and wash your face until it is completely clean and free of the substances you used; then dry it by dabbing it with a clean cloth.
- When the skin is completely dry, apply a light moisturizer that doesn't contain too many oils.
Method 4 of 4: Pore Cleansing Masks
Step 1. Use milk and gelatin
A rather popular homemade mask is a simple blend of these two ingredients; a particularly good alternative if you are looking to get rid of blackheads.
- Combine the two substances in equal parts and stir until the gelatin has completely dissolved in the milk, then put the mixture in the microwave for five seconds.
- Wait until it has returned to room temperature and then apply it on the nose, leaving it to act for ten minutes; it should solidify. In the end you can just take it off as if it were a film. This treatment is supposed to reduce blackheads.
Step 2. Try egg white and lime juice
This is an alternative option for removing blackheads.
- Combine the white of an egg and a tablespoon of lime juice; work them with a whisk to mix them and apply the mixture on the skin, on the areas you want to purify.
- Place a paper towel or paper towel over the mixture and add another layer; leave the mask on until it dries enough that you can peel it off.
- Gently remove all the paper handkerchief; now the skin should be smoother, fresher, with fewer blackheads and smaller pores.
Step 3. Use a mixture of raw milk and honey
Both of these substances have antibacterial and antifungal properties that contribute to a deep cleansing of the skin.
- Mix the two ingredients in equal parts and heat the mixture in the microwave until it takes on a thick, sticky consistency.
- Wait for it to come back to room temperature, then apply it to your face; leave it on for 25 minutes and at the end remove it carefully.
Step 4. Add the parsley
You can buy it in all supermarkets and it makes a great addition to any facial cleansing mask.
- In fact, it helps to reduce dark spots on the face and to free clogged pores.
- You can add a handful of dried or fresh parsley to the mask, whether it's homemade or commercial. As an alternative cleansing treatment, you can take a bunch of parsley and dip it in water, soak a washcloth in this solution and apply it to your face for 10-15 minutes.
Step 5. Purchase a clay mask
It is one of the best known remedies to deeply cleanse the skin, as it is able to purify it and eliminate blackheads.
- The price of these masks can vary greatly, depending on whether you buy them at beauty salons or supermarkets. As with all other products, do an online search and read specialized magazines to find reviews and make an informed purchase.
- Most of the products sold in stores also come with instructions for use, read them carefully and follow them carefully when making the mask.
- Always apply a small amount of the product to an arm or leg before using it for treatment, to make sure you don't have any allergic reactions.
