At sleepovers, it can be a fun challenge trying to stay up all night with your friends. If you're determined enough, you and your friends can enjoy the party all night without having to waste a single second sleeping.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Avoid Sleeping
Step 1. Don't put on your pajamas
The pajamas are comfortable and for this reason they induce sleep. Stick with the clothes you wore the day before and wear jeans or some other not particularly comfortable garment. Your goal is not to get comfortable and avoid all the behaviors that your mind can associate with sleep.
Step 2. Don't lie down on the bed
Comfort will make you close your eyes, a sure way to give in to sleepiness. So sit in a hard chair, on the floor, or similar surface. You should try to stay active, so change your position often.
Step 3. Brighten the room well
Soft lighting can strain you and especially your eyes. If you can, turn on at least two lights, in addition to the TV. It will help you keep your eyes open and your mind alert.
Part 2 of 4: Keeping the Body Awake
Step 1. Get as much sleep as possible the previous evening
So you'll be ready for a long night out. Take an afternoon nap or sleep all morning the day before the sleepover. If you can, sleep for at least 12 hours, or sleep for a few hours before your friends arrive.
Step 2. Drink coffee or caffeinated sodas
If you don't like coffee, have some sodas. You can drink Red Bull, Monster, Coca-Cola, or try mixing hot chocolate with milk and instant coffee.
Step 3. Eat spicy foods
Eating something spicy is like pinching yourself, but it burns more. Try spicy chips or cheeses, or anything else that has chili in it. Just remember not to overeat, as having a full stomach can make you sleepy.
Step 4. Try eating sugary snacks
Sugar can make you more active and move you more. Eat candy, chocolate, ice cream, cookies, cakes, and other sweets. You could also eat fizzy candies, to be stimulated by their sour taste and the sugar they contain.
Step 5. Chew a peppermint gum
By having your mouth busy chewing and biting, it will be easier to resist sleep. By chewing, you will send the signal to the brain that food is about to arrive and you will be able to stay awake. Chewing without swallowing can also help you avoid post-meal fatigue.
Step 6. Drink lots of water
It's hard to sleep with a full bladder because you won't be able to sit still. Water also has many beneficial effects; remember that dehydration can tire you.
Step 7. Wet your face with cold water
If you feel sleep is about to take over, a splash of cold water can help. Go to the bathroom, turn on the water in the sink and splash your face. It stimulates the nerves and provides new energy to your body.
Step 8. Move around a lot
If you keep moving, you will stimulate blood circulation and be more active. Try activities like aerobics jumps or pushups to stay awake. Organize games with your friends that require you to move instead of just playing video games or watching television.
Do the pillow fight! This activity will keep you entertained and active. Just try not to make too much noise or you will wake everyone up
Part 3 of 4: Keeping the Mind Alert
Step 1. Do things that you enjoy a lot
For example, you might be watching movies, playing video games, or playing a board game. Use your phone or tablet to play games, but remember to rest your eyes every twenty minutes or so. You can also try games like Truth or Dare, "Would You Rather" and "Mafia". They are games that require attention and will keep your mind alert. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are also great ideas and will distract your mind from sleep.
- If the television is on, try not to watch reruns of shows you've already seen. The fact that you already know what is going to happen will make the viewing boring. Try to watch content you've never seen or don't remember.
- Take frequent breaks if you look at a screen for a long time to avoid eye strain.
Step 2. Listen to loud music
Rock or heavy metal music is often louder, but in general, just turn up the volume. Don't overdo it though, or you may wake up the parents or even the neighbors. Use headphones in turn if necessary.
Step 3. Try not to look at the time
Constantly observing the clock will give you the impression that time passes more slowly and that the night never passes. Instead, try to pay attention to what your friends say or do. The more you have fun, the faster the time will pass.
Step 4. Rely on each other
Make it a rule that if someone sees signs of sleepiness in another person, they have the right to wake them up with a pinch. If you see your friends starting to fall asleep, propose to change activities. It is easier to stay awake with the help of others.
Part 4 of 4: Staying Active
Step 1. Try talking all night about exciting topics
Be careful not to hurt anyone's feelings and don't speak ill of people. For example, you can talk about the girls you like, the gossip you heard at school, or the movies and TV shows you love. Conversation stimulates the mind, so it will remain more alert.
Frightened. It tells many terrifying stories to help you stay awake in fear. Try playing truth or dare outdoors in the dark so that you can't sleep in terror
Step 2. Play hide and seek in the dark
The excitement of hiding will keep you awake! It is also a fun game if you have nothing else to do. Don't hide lying down though, or you might fall asleep.
Step 3. Go outside
Go out for some fresh air (if parents allow it). Jump on the trampoline, play with torches, chase each other, compete or swim in the pool in the garden (only with parental permission). Cold air will help you stay awake.
Step 4. Try singing
It doesn't matter if you're in tune, because singing is a great way to pass the time while keeping your mind active. You can organize a game like American Idol or X Factor in your living room or bedroom, or even outdoors. Make sure you don't wake up the sleepers in the house.
Advice
- Don't make too much noise the next morning, the landlord's parents won't be thrilled with your behavior.
- Try moving the sleepover to a room where you can make noise without disturbing the other inhabitants of the house. Tell everyone to bring pillows and sleeping bags.
- Try to organize your sleepover during the summer or on the weekend so you have time to resume your normal sleep cycle.
- The most important thing to remember is to prepare a plan of possible activities to do (without setting schedules) and / or find things that you enjoy doing all together. The other guys will have to have fun too, otherwise they'll get bored and leave you alone.
- The caffeine in drinks can take some time to get into the circulation. Give her time to act before drinking too much, thinking it has no effect.
- Don't stare at anything. Staring at something will make you sleepy.
- Take a 2-4 hour nap the next day.
- Turn on the air conditioner during the sleepover. The cold will keep you awake and alert. But it might make you want to rest in your cozy, warm blankets, so keep your eyes peeled.
- Try to stay awake only if you don't have to go to school the next day and you don't have to do anything important.
- Avoid waking other people in the house trying to sleep.
Warnings
- Make sure you rest before and after your waking night. Lack of sleep can make you less focused during the day and negatively affect your health.
- Don't drink too much coffee or caffeinated drinks. They can cause heart damage. One or two will keep you awake.
