Monopoly Empire is an interesting variation of the famous traditional board game, where to win you have to get billboards for your skyscraper. The goal is to be the first to fill it with billboards. Players buy advertisements when they land on matching boxes and can bid on billboards that opponents don't want. When they happen upon the handshake icon they can also swap one of their advertisements for another. Learn to play Monopoly Empire and have fun with friends and family.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Preparation
Step 1. Check that all components are present
Before you start preparing your Monopoly Empire game, make sure you have everything you need. This will also help you become familiar with the pieces and the board. You should have:
- A Monopoly Empire board.
- 4 skyscrapers.
- 6 pawns.
- 30 brands of famous brands.
- 6 offices.
- 14 Unexpected cards.
- 14 Empire cards.
- Monopoly money.
- 2 dice.
Step 2. Open the board and place it on the game table
Once you are sure you have all the necessary components, you can prepare the board. Open it and place it on the table, on the floor or where you intend to play.
Make sure you place the board in a place that all players can access
Step 3. Shuffle the cards and place them on the board
Shuffle the Unexpected card deck and the Empire card deck, then place them in the designated spots on the board. Contingencies are similar to traditional Monopoly cards while Empire cards are similar to Odds: they often offer you advantages that can help you win.
You will get two Empire cards at the start of the game
Step 4. Arrange the advertisements in their respective boxes
The signs must be placed at the designated points on the board. Look for the space dedicated to a brand and match the corresponding sign. For example, put the Coca-Cola advertisement in the appropriate box. You will have to compete with opponents to get these insignia and fill your skyscraper first.
Step 5. Put the Water Company and the Electric Company on the board as well
Arrange them in the designated spaces until someone buys them. There is a box for all four Water Company cards and one for the four Electric Company cards.
Step 6. Do not put the 6 Offices and dice on the board
They are the only elements that you don't have to arrange on the board. Leave them out along with the nuts; you can keep them on the side or give them to someone.
Step 7. Choose a player to act as banker
The banker is in charge of managing transactions and auctions, allocating money to players when they pass by the "Go!" and collect fines and payments. Make sure the banker is available and capable of carrying out all these actions.
The banker must distribute € 1000 to all participants at the start of the game (one € 500, four € 100 and two € 50)
Step 8. Give everyone 2 Empire cards and 1 Skyscraper
Each player starts with those two cards. Take a good look at yours but don't reveal them to your opponents. Wait your turn to use them. Everyone also needs a skyscraper. The goal of the game is to be the first to fill it with the signs.
Step 9. Have each player choose a token and put them all on "Go! Go!"
. Once everything is ready, players can choose the tokens and place them on the board. The tokens include a controller, a racing car, a bottle of Coca-Cola, a film, a motorcycle and French fries.
Part 2 of 2: Play
Step 1. Try to understand the goal of the game
In Monopoly Empire, the first player who manages to fill his skyscraper with advertising signs wins, so you have to buy as many advertisements as possible quickly. When an opponent lands on an ad you own, they must pay you based on the height you have reached on your skyscraper.
When a player runs out of money, they don't go bankrupt like in a normal Monopoly game - that person simply takes the tallest sign on their skyscraper and hands it over to the player who has to collect the payment
Step 2. Decide who starts
Before playing, decide who will throw first. Official rules state that the youngest player must start. If you prefer you can decide with a die roll. Shifts continue clockwise.
Step 3. Take your turn
When it's your turn, you have to complete a specific set of actions. Do them in the same order on all turns, taking into account the square you landed on. Follow these guidelines:
- Roll the die. You are entitled to withdraw if you get a double. For example, if you roll two 6s, move your token 12 spaces and perform the action on that space. Then roll again and take another action.
- Move your token the number of squares you rolled. For example, if you rolled a 6 and a 4, move 10 spaces.
- Perform the action required by the square you landed on. For example, if you end up on an advertisement that you can buy, you have the opportunity to do so.
Step 4. Follow the instructions when drawing an Unexpected or Empire card
When you land on an Unexpected or Empire space, you must draw one of those cards. Generally speaking, you need to use Incidents right away, but you can keep Empire cards until an appropriate time.
For example, if you get a "Get out of jail free" card, then keep it until you need it. There is no limit to the number of Empire cards you can play in one turn. For example, if someone plays a "Just Say No" card, an opponent can too
Step 5. Bid on ads that your opponents don't want to buy
When a player lands on a square of a sign that he doesn't want to buy, it goes up for auction. The banker manages the auction and bids start at € 50. All subsequent bids must be in increments of € 50 (such as € 100, € 150, € 250 etc.). Whoever makes the highest bid wins the advertisement and must hand over the payment to the bank.
Step 6. Use the swap option on the die
If you get the handshake icon on one of your dice you can trade as a turn action. This means that you can exchange two advertisements which are located at the highest point of the respective skyscrapers. You can swap yours for an opponent's or those of two players.
The exchange is optional. If you prefer not to use it, move the token by the number you rolled with the other die. If you make a trade, stay put
Step 7. Continue the game until one player wins
Whoever fills their skyscraper first is the winner. The game continues until one of the participants fulfills this condition. A Monopoly Empire game lasts around 90 minutes, but in some cases it takes longer to decree a winner.
