Cassette clips (or latches) can be difficult to open if you are not familiar with them; generally, they are mounted on pearl necklaces. They consist of an oval element and a hook that remains mostly hidden, a detail that prevents you from viewing the mechanism and understanding how to open it; however, after a few tries, you find that it's easy! However, remember that people with arthritis or other similar diseases that restrict hand movement can have great difficulty.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Open
Step 1. Find a necklace with a clasp similar to the one proposed in the attached image
Remember that the image is only a drawing, consequently the clip can look very different; in addition, there are many models of different shapes, so take all these details into consideration
Step 2. Hold the oval element in the non-dominant hand
The flat portion should be facing you, while your thumb and forefinger should rest on the narrower sides.
Step 3. Press the thinner sides where your fingers are (as shown in the picture)
As you go, push the back end of the hook into the oval until you feel it has loosened and then pull it out
Step 4. At this point, the clip should be partially open, just as shown in the image
Step 5. Rotate the hook around the small metal pin until you have pulled it out
Step 6. That's it
The necklace is finally open!
Method 2 of 2: Close
Step 1. Hold the necklace around your neck and bring the clasp in front of your throat so you can see it
Step 2. Grab it as if you were opening it and follow the steps described in the previous section, but backwards
Thread the pointed end of the hook around the metal pin as shown
Step 3. The oval part and the hook should be joined as in the picture
In this way, the hook can slide inside the clip in a straight line.
Step 4. Slide the hook into the oval element
You should feel a slight "click" or feel the hook snap into place.
Step 5. The clasp is closed, you can now show off the necklace during your evening
When tightened, it should look like the second drawing of the item.
Advice
-
Practice closing and opening the clasp several times before putting on the necklace.
When you put it on by yourself, hold the clip in front of your throat and see in the mirror what you are doing; when finished, turn the jewel and bring the clasp to the nape of the neck
- If the clip is heavily blackened, you should have it cleaned; if the necklace is made of pearls, do not try to clean it yourself, but consult a professional.
