Having a broken leg can force you to have really boring days. However, even if you are forced to stay indoors, you can still have fun while recovering. Use your free time to decorate the plaster, to learn something or to give vent to your creativity.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Decorate the Chalk
Step 1. Paint your chalk
Use colors to turn it into something beautiful. Choose a subject you like. Many people turn their chalks into the limbs of their favorite superheroes; alternatively, you can also find inspiration in a food, a drink, a football team, your city skyline or just a beautiful landscape.
- If you do not have the artistic skills to paint the plaster yourself, ask a friend more talented than you to make the outlines of the figure that you can color.
- Better to use indelible colors such as acrylic paints. If you decide to use spray paint, be sure to protect your skin with a plastic bag or similar material.
Step 2. Draw on the chalk with a permanent marker
You can use it instead of paint. If you are not a great artist, take a black marker and draw random intersecting lines. Fill in the blanks with some of your favorite colors.
Step 3. Get your friends to sign the chalk
This is one of the classic ways to make your chalk more fun. If you want to make it even more unique, ask your friends to draw something, instead of just leaving a signature. Everyone can add something to the "picture" that will appear.
Step 4. Use decorative tape
From washi tape to decorative wrapping tape, there are solutions with many different colors and designs. If you are not an artist, you can use tape to make your chalk more colorful and fun.
Method 2 of 4: Doing Fun Activities
Step 1. Enjoy some television
If you already have a satellite TV subscription, great: you have plenty of free time to take advantage of it. If, on the other hand, you do not have the opportunity to indulge in this luxury, try one of the streaming services that can be found on the internet. Many of them offer unlimited hours of television programs and movies for a modest monthly fee; choose one or two to subscribe to. You can use your computer to watch videos, or stream them to a smart TV.
Step 2. Read some books
If you have an ebook reader and a local library card, you have access to tons of texts. Just enter the library website and find the ebook section. Most libraries offer e-books that you can rent for a certain amount of time (usually two weeks).
Step 3. Try some board games
Even if you're stuck at home, it doesn't mean you need to be bored to death. Invite some friends over for a board game night. Ask them to bring their favorite toys (and make sure you have some too), then order pizzas for everyone.
Step 4. Try the puzzles
Both classic and word puzzles, such as crossword puzzles, are fun pastimes. On the internet you can find an almost infinite amount of crosswords and alternatively you can buy specialized magazines or complete the newspaper crossword puzzle. In newsstands you will often find volumes with puzzle games, such as sudoku, for a few euros.
Step 5. Discover new music
Many websites give you the opportunity to listen to all the music you want for free. For example, by installing Spotify on your computer you can listen to many albums without spending a euro, with the only drawback of a few commercial breaks. On Deezer you can create tailor-made radio stations for you, inserting your favorite songs and letting the program find songs similar to them. Both of these services are free on computers, but you can sign up for a premium subscription to get rid of the ads.
Step 6. Try spending a day at the gym
If someone can accompany you, you can use machines for the upper body, such as the one for the lats. You can also lift weights on the bench and do other exercises, such as abs. If you can afford the help of a personal trainer, ask if they can prepare a training program for you that takes into account your injury.
Method 3 of 4: Using Creativity
Step 1. Purchase adult coloring books
Coloring is no longer a pastime reserved only for children. On the internet and in many bookstores you can find many books designed for adults. Alternatively, there are several websites that offer free printable illustrations.
Coloring can have the added benefit of reducing stress
Step 2. Devote yourself to crafting (the art of making small jewelry or accessories)
If you like to give space to your creativity, this is a great pastime, even for those who can use only one leg. You may need help with the preparations, but once everything is ready, you can do whatever you want.
If you need some ideas to inspire you, visit Martha Stewart's website or browse Pinterest
Step 3. Start your own blog
If you are forced to stay indoors with a broken leg, you will likely spend a lot of time in front of the computer. A blog gives you the opportunity to engage your mind and on many sites (such as Blogger) you can create one for free. Tell what happens in your life, or write about a topic you are an expert on. Choose the setting you prefer, from cooking to advice for new mothers.
Step 4. Try writing a book
If blogging isn't your thing, you can still take the time to write. Work on the novel you've been thinking about for years or try to compose some poetry. If you don't know where to start, borrow a creative writing ebook from your local library.
Step 5. Try to crochet
Even if you have never done this before, approaching this business is not difficult. All you need is a few simple materials: a crochet hook, some thread and some scissors. On the internet you can find many guides. Try starting by following a video on YouTube.
- Get an I-9 iron. Crochet hooks are cataloged with a letter (I) or a number (9), although many models have both abbreviations. The I-9 iron is medium to large in size and is perfect for a beginner.
- To start, choose a medium weight yarn (perhaps a number "4") of a uniform and vibrant color.
- Have a pair of scissors handy to cut the thread.
Method 4 of 4: Use Your Free Time to Learn Something
Step 1. Try to learn a language
If you have a smartphone, you can use an app to start learning a new language. One of the most used free apps is Duolingo.
- Many of these programs allow you to learn through games so that you don't lose motivation.
- If you don't have a smartphone, you can use a tablet or computer.
Step 2. Learn to code
Programming is a highly sought-after skill in many fields of the business world, so knowing how to program is undoubtedly an advantage. On the internet you can find many sites that offer free programming courses, such as Code Academy or W3 Schools.
Some lessons are game-like, while other sites, like W3 Schools, offer more traditional guides that you just need to read
Step 3. Take free courses on the internet
Expand your knowledge by attending online courses taught by professors from around the world. On many websites you will find lessons that you can listen to for free and you will have the opportunity to compare yourself with other students and even get a certificate of participation. To get started, try the free courses from Google or Coursera.
