You are far from home, in a hotel room to be exact, and you are getting bored like never before. What to do? Fortunately, there are numerous ways to enjoy yourself in a hotel, alone or with friends.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Games
Step 1. Choose a board or card game
If you are in company (and especially if there are children), a board game is what it takes.
- You could even play alone. For example, a deck of cards is enough to play solitaire (among other things, it is also available online). If you are in company, from poker to rummy you will be spoiled for choice. Furthermore, nothing stops you from inventing your own game.
- Some hotels offer board games - ask at reception. If in doubt, bring one from home. Alternatively, you can play Pictionary with a pen and paper. Just draw a picture that will have to be guessed by the other participants.
- The dictionary game is another fun proposition. All you need is a dictionary. You will have to choose a word and tell it to the other players, who will have to guess what it means by writing the definition on a piece of paper. Read all definitions, including the true one. Participants will have to guess who gave the right one. You will earn points if someone chooses your definition (even if it is wrong) and if you know the meaning of the word.
Step 2. You can try games that don't require any tools
For example, if you can't find a board game, you can play another without using anything special, as long as there is at least one other person in the room.
- Try playing mime. Write the title of a movie or book, or the name of an object or place, on a piece of paper. Pass it to a member of the opposing team: he will have to interpret it by mimicking it to his partner, who will have to try to guess what it is.
- This game is ideal for extended families, as it is preferable to form several teams. It is forbidden to speak while playing.
- You could play "I see I see". Choose an object. Your opponent has to ask you a series of questions to try and guess it. You could also propose to sing a traditional American and Canadian folk song called 99 Bottles of Beer, "99 bottles of beer" ("99 bottles of beer on the wall, get one, pass it to … 98 bottles of beer on the wall, get one, pass it to … "). To know the rhythm, search for it on YouTube. Continue like this until you get to 0.
Step 3. Try a pillow fight, but be careful not to break anything
It's a timeless classic, as is jumping on the bed. You could also build a tent or fort with blankets.
- These games allow children to release all their energy and have fun like never before because they can do different activities than usual.
- While being in the company of another adult, a pillow fight can brighten the mood and create a moment of lightheartedness. You could also ball up your socks and challenge yourself to "hoop" in the trash can.
Step 4. Make some animals out of towels
Kids will have a blast this way. Sometimes the maids themselves make them. In fact, it's nice to walk into a hotel room and find swan-shaped towels on the bed.
- You could make some animals out of towels and leave them that way to surprise the maid. In any case, this activity is particularly fun for children. It is possible to make birds, dogs, cats and other animals.
- After you're done, invite everyone to draw animals and guess which ones they are. You could also do some Chinese themed shadows.
Step 5. Organize a treasure hunt
This activity is also fun for children. Hide items in your room and maybe even in the hotel corridor.
- For each object, write clues on a note: the children will have to try to solve the riddles and gradually find the hidden elements.
- Do not neglect the safety of the participants and the hotel rules. Never allow children to run around the hotel without supervision. Organize the treasure hunt in your room or follow them.
Method 2 of 3: Have Fun Alone
Step 1. Log on to the Internet
Most hotel rooms offer free Wi-Fi, so ask for the password at reception. It won't be an original activity, but it's better than nothing when you're alone in a hotel room.
- Read a book online, watch a movie or a TV show in streaming, talk to your friends on social networks. The possibilities are endless.
- Play online, email, try writing a book. The beauty of a hotel room is that the stress of everyday life vanishes inside, so you can focus on other things.
Step 2. Read the magazines or brochures you find in the hotel
You can take the opportunity to find out more about the place you are visiting.
- If you don't have a computer or don't feel like going online, reading magazines or brochures can help you pass the time. You can also buy magazines in the hotel's gift shop if there is one.
- Find out about the area. You may discover a tour or a new restaurant to try.
Step 3. Request room service
For many it is fun because it is a kind of luxury. Sometimes it is worthwhile to indulge in a little whim.
- Order dishes you've never tried before to make this experience even more interesting. Choose different dishes and have fun enjoying them.
- You could also try ordering some takeout. Many hotels provide telephone numbers for pizzerias and other restaurants. Eating pizza in a hotel room can be fun.
Step 4. Write something
For example, you could write a letter. It used to be a very important art, but today it has fallen into disuse, so let recipients know that you care about them because you took the time to think about the content.
- You could also try writing a short story or poem. If you don't care, write a diary, perhaps talking about your trip. Is writing not for you? You could draw. Hotels sometimes provide stationery.
- Some people get lost in writing. It is ideal for passing the time and feeling less alone. In fact, words transport you to another world, or create an intimate bond with the people you miss, because you know that sooner or later they will read what you wrote.
Step 5. Bring gadgets to entertain yourself
Prepare for your stay in the hotel with devices that allow you to listen to music or play video games.
- Bring a DVD you haven't seen yet and watch it (if you have a DVD player in your room). If the hotel offers this device, they may also lend DVDs to guests, so ask at the front desk.
- Upload songs and shows to your MP3 player, iPod or computer. You could also listen to the radio. Many hotels make it available.
- If you can, bring a video game console. You can connect it to the television and play. Some hotels offer gaming machines, but sometimes it is necessary to pay to borrow video games.
Method 3 of 3: More Ideas for Fun
Step 1. Try planning a romantic evening
If you are staying in this hotel with your partner, you are alone, you are of the right age and circumstances allow it, take advantage of this opportunity.
- Book a room with a whirlpool tub. With the right company, your stay at the hotel will be much more enjoyable.
- Even if you are staying alone, the hot tub is relaxing. If you're taking a regular bath, use a scented bubble bath.
Step 2. Change someone's look
It is a fun activity if you are in the company of children. You can invite them to change the look of their mom, dad or little brother.
- For example, they can do their mother's makeup or style her hair in a weird way. It is an activity that entertains and amuses many children.
- Take selfies. Maybe that's a bit of a silly idea, but hotel lighting can be very valuable because it tends to be more subdued. And then, if your child changes your look, you will absolutely have to document it!
Step 3. Rent a movie
Many hotels offer on demand service. Watching a movie is a great pastime, alone or in company.
- Most hotels offer a classic television. If you watch a movie, stock up on snacks at the vending machines - it will be like going to the cinema.
- Try watching a movie other than your usual genre. Take advantage of this overnight stay to get to know yourself better and try something new. Invite everyone in attendance to put on their pajamas and curl up under the covers to watch the movie.
Step 4. Meditate
Put the stress aside, at least for now, then take the opportunity to think. Write plans for the future. Work through any problems.
- Consider staying overnight as a kind of vacation. You don't have to do something. Pamper yourself by lazing around, without worries, deadlines or pressures.
- Take a nap, catch up with your readings, watch a light show, turn off your cell phone or lie down and think. If the hotel has a spa, you may want to treat yourself to a massage or other treatment.
Step 5. Have a secret party
Someone enjoys having secret parties in hotel rooms. However, avoid it if you are a minor.
- If you're throwing a party, don't invite too many people, don't destroy the room, or do any actions that might get police attention.
- To organize a secret party in a hotel room, invitations are usually sent to a few selected guests a couple of weeks in advance. You will have to sneak in food and drinks. Also, limit the guest list. Remember that all of this is at your own risk. Try not to break the law and not make too much noise, otherwise the neighbors will complain.
Step 6. Observe the people
It may sound crazy, but it sure is very interesting. It would be even better to look out the window, that way no one will notice what you are doing.
- Choose one or two people to observe, see how they interact with people and how they use objects.
- See how much you can tell about a person's character by observing how he walks, what he does, what he eats, what he drinks and much more. Human beings are fascinating creatures.
Advice
- In your room, look for the best places to hide.
- He watches TV.
- Relax - the hotel bed is probably the most comfortable bed you've tried recently.
- See how many random items you can find in the room.
- Whether you are with a friend or alone, take lots of photos at random.
- Sleep - it's the most important thing.
- Walk through the corridors of the hotel and explore it floor by floor. You may discover something new.
Warnings
- Never damage or break objects you find in the room.
- Do not take actions that could cost you expulsion from the hotel. Be careful and don't be in danger.
