Boil the Eggs
Step 1. Place 6 eggs in a small pot
Step 2. Cover the eggs with water
They must be submerged in about an inch of water.
Add a pinch of salt to the water
Step 3. Put the lid on the pot
Turn on the stove and bring the water to a light boil using medium heat.
Step 4. Turn off the heat
Leave the eggs in the boiling water for 7 minutes without opening the pan.
Step 5. Prepare a bowl full of ice water
It must be large enough to hold all the eggs.
Step 6. Throw away the boiling water
Soak the eggs in ice water for 3-5 minutes.
Prepare the Egg Salad
Step 1. Break the shell of hard-boiled eggs
Shell them carefully to prevent pieces of shell from ending up in the salad.
Step 2. Place the shelled eggs in a medium-sized bowl
Step 3. Add 2 tablespoons (30ml) of mayonnaise
For a lighter version of the salad you can use Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise. If you prefer, you can use one tablespoon (15ml) of mayonnaise and one tablespoon (15ml) of yogurt
Step 4. Mash the eggs with the fork
You decide freely whether to make them into small or large pieces, depending on the use you want to make of the salad.
Step 5. Add the toppings
The egg salad recipe is very versatile. Add your favorite ingredients, then mix with a large spoon.
- Add as much pepper as you like. Depending on the ingredients chosen, you may also need a pinch of salt.
- Use pickles. Chop them finely or purchase a ready-made rice salad dressing. Vegetables can also be sweet and sour, according to your personal tastes. Start with a teaspoon, taste the egg salad and decide whether to add more.
- Add 2 celery sticks if you want to add a crunchy note to the recipe.
- If you want, add 1 teaspoon of dill or another fresh herb.
- Add 50 g of chopped onion or chives. Toppings you can choose from include mustard and lemon juice.
Serve the Egg Salad
Step 1. Decide if you want to serve the salad on a bed of lettuce or in a sandwich
- Wash and dry the lettuce leaves if you want to use them as an egg salad bed. Take a spoon and spread the egg salad over the lettuce leaves. The doses indicated are for a salad for 4 people.
- Toast two slices of bread. If you wish, you can butter them when they are hot. Arrange a lettuce leaf on each slice of bread. Spread the egg salad over the bottom half of the sandwich using a spoon. Close the sandwich, cut it in half and serve immediately.
