A wedding in The Sims 3 is a joyful event for you and your Sims! If you have two Sims who are perfect for each other, read this article to learn how to unite them in the sacred bond of marriage.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Developing a Romantic Interest
Step 1. Choose your soulmate
Some Sims are more compatible than others, based on their personalities and interests. Two characters can get married even if they have conflicts or conflicting characteristics, but it can take longer and the marriage may not be a happy one.
- Use strategy to find the right people for your Sim. For example, if your character is interested in books, search the library or bookstore.
- A Sim's romance progresses faster if they have one of these traits: Charismatic, Friendly, Persuasive Talkative, or Incurable Romantic. A Sim that is Hard to Commit or Clumsy may not be a perfect companion, but they can still get married.
Step 2. Teen love stories have special characteristics
If you want to start a relationship between two guys, consider the following:
- Teens can start a romance with another Sim of the same age, but they can't get married until they become a Young Adult.
- When one of the Sims becomes a Young Adult, their romantic interactions with the Teen Sims will disappear. You will be able to continue the relationship when both Sims are young adults.
- High school friends never get old, so you can never marry the girl you had in high school.
Step 3. Improve your Sim's romantic skills (optional)
To increase the odds of success and unlock new interactions, train your Sim's Charisma skill. Also try to get lifetime rewards that can make a relationship easier, such as Attractive and Never Boring.
Step 4. Make the two Sims of your choice become friends
Control one and have it interact with the other. In The Sims 3, you have a lot of social options available. Try starting with some mundane conversation topics, then move on to more positive social interactions. Even if you choose unwanted interactions for the other Sim, it should only take a few encounters for the two characters to become Acquaintances and ultimately Friends.
- If you can, choose conversation options based on the characteristics of the Sim you are listening to. A motor lover loves to talk about cars, while a technophobe hates to talk about electronics.
- Relationships deteriorate over time. Invite the Sim to your house the following day as well so as not to lose the progress made.
Step 5. Ask a Sim if they are single
You will find the "Ask if single" option in the Love category before you even become friends with a Sim. Try it now to know the relationship status of the second Sim. It is usually much harder to seduce a Sim who is already in a relationship.
If you can get the second Sim apart, both characters you want to marry will make their relationship with the third wheel much worse. Decide if it's worth it before continuing
Step 6. Try romantic interactions
Most of them won't be successful until the two Sims are at least Friends (at about 40% of the progress bar). At that point, you can start making the first move with these not too explicit options:
- Compliment the personality;
- Compliment the appearance;
- Flirt.
Step 7. Watch the other Sim's reaction
If he reacts positively and finds your character charming, you will see a message confirming this. This is a good time to continue romantic interactions, but be careful. If you run too much, you can scare the other Sim. Even if you get to the "Fascinating" state, you still have to stick to the simpler options for now.
Step 8. Become a "Romantic Interest"
After a few romantic interactions that have gradually raised the relationship bar, invite the second Sim over to the first Sim's house again. This time, flirt until you get the short-lived "Charming" status, which will unlock new options:
- Try setting the mood by staring the other Sim in the eye, hugging them, or whispering in their ear.
- If all goes well, try First Kiss, Confess Attraction or Massage. If Sims aren't Romantic Interest yet, they should get there when one of the listed interactions is successful.
Part 2 of 3: Getting married
Step 1. Continue to advance the relationship between the two Sims you have chosen
Now you know the basics of romantic interactions and you probably know what both characters like. Try to improve their relationship every day, without rushing.
Step 2. Get the contextual state to Irresistible
After a few encounters, keep flirting with your Sims until the status of the one you control changes to Irresistible. At that point, you'll unlock new options that can advance the relationship to marriage.
Step 3. Make the two Sims a stable couple
This option will make the characters Boyfriend and Girlfriend. Romantic relationships will be easier at this point and it won't take long to unlock them.
At this point, you should avoid letting your Sim flirt with others, as their relationship with their partner will suffer
Step 4. Continue to advance the relationship of the two Sims you have chosen
If you haven't already, start using the Flirt and Jump in Arms options. If the two Sims are near a bed or other objects, you can also choose Woohoo. Some Sims woohoo right away, while others are more reluctant. However, keep in mind that this interaction is not necessary to lead to marriage.
Step 5. Make the marriage proposal
After some time, you will unlock this option during the "Irresistible" contextual state. You will be able to repeat the proposal as many times as you wish, but you should improve the relationship between the two Sims before each attempt.
Step 6. Plan the ceremony
To have two Sims marry immediately, select "Private Wedding" in the Love category. For a big party, ask your Sim to use their cell phone to Throw a Party and choose Wedding Party. When the characters are married, you can make them live together.
The Generations expansion adds many wedding-related items and options. These include bows, cakes, and stag parties
Part 3 of 3: Using Cheats
Step 1. Consider the risks
This method does not only involve the use of tricks. You will need to enable a special mode used by the developers to try the game, which allows you to use many new options, but can corrupt your game if used incorrectly. Your save can be permanently ruined.
Step 2. Consider the benefits
There are two reasons for using this trick:
- You can bring any two Sims to Best Friends status, so you can jump into romantic interactions right away.
- If you get the move error that prevents the game from continuing when you try to move a Sim to another's home, the cheat allows you to correct it.
Step 3. Open the cheat console
Press Control + ⇧ Shift + C to open the console at the top of the screen.
Windows Vista users may also need to press the Windows key
Step 4. Enable test tricks
Type in the cheat console TestingCheatsEnabled true. Hit enter.
Step 5. Click and drag the relationship level up
You can instantly turn two Sims into Best Friends. This will unlock the first romantic interactions.
Step 6. Add a Sim to your home
If you're trying to fix the move error, hold down ⇧ Shift and click the Sim you want to add. You should see new options in the context menu. Select "Add to active home".
The other Sim will have to live in that house and not already be married
Step 7. Disable the tricks
As mentioned earlier, cheats can corrupt your game. Open the console again with (Control + ⇧ Shift + C) and type TestingCheatsEnabled false, then press Enter.
Advice
- You can choose to have two Sims divorce with the "Separation" interaction (under the "Wicked …" menu). This will drastically drop the relationship level between the two characters and change their status into ex-husband and ex-wife. The exes will continue to live together until you decide they have to move house.
- If your Sim is not a skilled seducer and the one you want to conquer is in another relationship, it is easier to make the two Best Friends with only friendly interactions. When you have the option to invite the second Sim to move in from the first, you can check them out and end their relationship before starting the new one.
- It is possible to marry Sims of opposite sexes or of the same sex. Homosexual couples cannot have a biological child, but they can adopt one.
- Your Sims don't need to be married to use Woohoo interaction (having sex), but they do need to have a high level of romantic relationship.
- Sims can marry ghosts, SimBots, and Sims turn you into mummies if you have access to expansions that allow you to use those characters.
Warnings
- When two Sims are in a romantic relationship, they swear allegiance to their partners. If, at any time, a Sim catches their mate in the act, their relationship can suffer drastically. If your Sims cheat on their partners, they risk becoming enemies.
- If you have the Generations expansion, romantic interactions can earn you a reputation in the city. A Sim would have a hard time marrying if they have a reputation for being unfaithful.
