This guide explains how to open the cheat console in all versions of The Sims for computer, Xbox (360 / One) or PlayStation (3/4).
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Windows and macOS
Step 1. Press the correct key combination to open the cheat console
- Windows PC: press Control + Shift + C at the same time. If the console doesn't open, try Control + Shift + ⊞ Win + C.
- Mac: press ⌘ Command + Shift + C at the same time. If that doesn't work, try Control + Shift + C.
Step 2. Enter the cheat codes
Make sure you type in all the spaces, symbols, and periods shown in the code. Here are some codes you can try.
- kaching: 1000 Simoleons;
- motherlode: 50,000 Simoleons;
- help or help –all: show the list of tricks;
- testingcheats true (Sims 4), testingcheatsenabled true (Sims 3) or boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true (Sims 2): activate developer cheats and once enabled, you can hold down Shift when clicking on an object or a Sim to open a special menu with the tricks;
- move_objects on: allows you to move or delete any object, even those that you cannot normally modify. Be careful not to accidentally delete an important item, such as a letter box.

Step 3. Press Enter to confirm
Method 2 of 2: PlayStation and Xbox
Step 1. Press ⇱ Home on the controller to pause the game
You will only be able to open the cheat console after doing so.
Step 2. Press the correct key combination according to your system
- PlayStation 3 and 4: press R1 + R2 + L1 + L2 (all 4 rear buttons) at the same time;

Xbox One and 360:
press LB + LT + RB + RT (all 4 rear buttons) at the same time.
Step 3. Enter the code
Make sure you type in all spaces, symbols and periods, exactly as shown in this guide.
- If you are playing The Sims 4, you will need to type testingcheats on before entering the codes.
- You can find the list of cheats for The Sims 4 on the IGN website.
Step 4. Confirm that you want to deactivate trophies / achievements
By activating the cheats in the console version of the game you will not be able to earn trophies and achievements.
- On The Sims 4, select OK.
- On The Sims 3, press "Got it. Let me use the tricks!".
Step 5. Follow the on-screen instructions to save a copy of the game
This way, you will be able to return to the original game without any cheats if you decide to try to get the trophies and achievements.
Step 6. Get Spoot the Llama if you are playing The Sims 3
Before you can use the cheats in this game, you need this pet, which is available for free in the Decorations section of the Build & Buy mode. Here's how to get it:
- Press Select (PS) or Back (Xbox) to open the mode selection menu;
- Select Build and buy;
- Select Buy;
- Select Various decorations;
- Move the cursor up Spoot the Magic Blade and select Buy;
- Place Spoot in an easy-to-access spot on your land, because you will have to interact with him every time you want to use the cheats;
- Press Select (PS3) or Back (360) to return to Live mode. When you want to use the cheats, select Spoot, then choose the code you want.
