When someone gives you Xbox One content as a gift, a message will be sent to your account from the Xbox Live team and an email stating that you have received a gift. This article explains how to redeem a code or gift card on Xbox One.
Steps
Step 1. Press the "Xbox" button on the controller
It features the Xbox platform logo and is located in the center of the top of the controller. This will bring up the Xbox One dashboard menu on the left side of the screen.
Step 2. Select the Groups and chats tab
It features two comics. In some cases, there will also be a small number in the upper right corner of the icon to indicate that there are messages you haven't read yet.
Step 3. Select the Messages from Xbox Live option
You will see a list of all system messages, including the one that contains the complimentary code.
Step 4. Select the Redeem Code option
It is placed below the message under consideration.
- You can also select the link Redeem code in the email you received or you can copy the code, access the Xbox Store and redeem it directly from the web.
- Codes related to digital content can only be redeemed in the country in which they were purchased. For example, if a friend of yours who lives in Mexico has sent you a gift card and you are a resident of Italy, you will not be able to redeem it.
Step 5. Start the game that was given to you
After selecting the option Redeem code, the corresponding game icon will be displayed directly on the Xbox Home that you can use to start the title. To make sure the game has been downloaded and installed correctly, try running and playing it.
