This wikiHow teaches you how to transfer photos stored on an iPad to a computer running Windows or a Mac.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Windows
Step 1. Connect iPad to computer
Plug one end of the cable you use to charge the iPad battery into its communication port along the bottom, then plug the other end of the cable into a free USB port on your computer.
Step 2. Launch iTunes
Double-click the program icon with a multicolored musical note on a white background. It is very important to launch iTunes before transferring photos from the device to the computer, so that the latter can detect the iPad as an external storage drive.
- If you haven't installed iTunes on your computer yet, do so now before continuing.
- If prompted to update iTunes, press the button Download iTunes. After the update is complete, you will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Step 3. Wait for your iPad icon to appear inside the iTunes window
After a few seconds, the iOS device should be detected by the program and its icon should appear in the upper left of the iTunes window. When the indicated icon is visible you can continue.
Before the iPad icon appears inside the iTunes window, you may need to press the button Authorize this computer (or a similar button) to complete the connection.
Step 4. Enter the "Start" menu by clicking the icon
It features the Windows logo and is located in the lower left corner of the desktop.
Step 5. Select the Photos app
If the app Photo is not displayed in the "Start" menu, type the keyword photo into the search field at the bottom of the menu, then select the app Photo from the search results list.
Step 6. Enter the Import menu
It is located in the upper right of the program window. A small drop-down menu will appear.
Step 7. Choose the From a USB device option
It is one of the items listed in the drop-down menu that appeared. The computer will automatically search for all the photos and images stored on the iPad.
Step 8. Select the photos to transfer
Deselect any images you don't want imported from iPad to computer. Alternatively, press the button Uncheck all and select only the photos you want to copy to Windows.
Step 9. Press the Continue button
It is located at the bottom of the dialog box.
Step 10. Uncheck the "Delete items after import" checkbox
It is located at the bottom of the dialog box. This will prevent photos imported to your computer from being automatically deleted from iPad.
Step 11. Press the Import button
It is located at the bottom of the window. All selected photos will be imported to your computer. When the import is complete, you will receive a notification message that will appear in the lower right corner of the screen.
Method 2 of 2: Mac
Step 1. Connect iPad to Mac
Plug one end of the cable you use to charge the iPad battery into its communication port along the bottom, then plug the other end of the cable into a free USB port on your computer.
If your iPad connection cable has a USB 3.0 connector, you will most likely need to purchase a USB 3.0 to USB-C adapter before you can connect the device to your Mac
Step 2. Launch the Photos app by selecting its icon
It features a multicolored stylized flower and should be placed directly on the System Dock.
Step 3. Log in to iPad
Click the name of your iPad visible in the "Devices" section located on the left side of the program window.
If your iPad doesn't appear in the left sidebar of the Photos app window, unlock the device screen by pressing the Home button, typing the security code, and pressing the Home button again
Step 4. Select the photos you want to copy to your computer
Tap the thumbnail image of each photo you want to import to your Mac.
If you need to import all the new images on your iPad and not yet transferred to your Mac to your computer, skip this step
Step 5. Press the Import Selected button
It is located in the upper right corner of the window. All the photos you choose will be copied to your Mac.
- Inside the button indicated is also reported the number of elements that have been selected (for example Import 10 selected).
- If you need to import all the new photos taken from the iPad since the last sync (i.e. the images that have not yet been transferred to your computer) to your Mac, press the blue button Import all new items.
Step 6. Wait for the import process to finish
When all the selected photos have been imported from the iPad to the Mac, you can view them directly on the latter by accessing the category My albums located inside the left sidebar of the window.
