Trees are very useful structures that are naturally generated in the world of Minecraft. They offer the player many useful resources, such as wood blocks, which are necessary to progress in the early stages of the game. Many different types of trees can be spawned, and then planted within the game, in creative or survival mode.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Planting Trees in Survival Mode
Step 1. Choose what type of tree to plant
As in real life, there are multiple types of trees in Minecraft, and it's important to decide what kind of tree you want to plant, particularly if you want to receive a specific type of resource. All Minecraft trees belong to one of these six basic species: acacia, birch, black oak, jungle, oak, and fir. Below you will find information on what you will receive from each type of tree:
- Acacia trees are the easiest to distinguish. They grow in spirals and their wood is more orange than other trees.
- Birches grow quickly and it is easy to collect their wood.
- Black oak trees grow incredibly fast, and their leaves have the potential to produce apples. Their trunks also grow in 2x2 blocks, so if you want to harvest a lot of wood, this is the ideal tree to plant.
- Jungle trees are the largest in Minecraft and are sometimes referred to as "the jungle giants". While planting a jungle tree can be an excellent source of wood blocks, cutting these trees can be more difficult and potentially dangerous because they grow very tall.
- Oak trees are the easiest to find and grow. The wood of these trees is the same color as what you can find in naturally generated structures. As with black oak trees, oak leaves have the potential to produce apples when destroyed.
- Fir trees grow very tall, which is why, like jungle trees, they can give you a lot of wood blocks, but they also come with risks.
Step 2. Find the type of trees to plant
Before you can plant a tree, you will need a sapling, which you can harvest from existing trees. Trees grow in different places, so you'll need to know where to look:
- Acacia trees are naturally generated only in the savanna biome.
- Birch trees can be born in many places, but they are most commonly found in the birch forest biome and are easy to spot due to the white color of their wood.
- Black oak trees are found only in the covered forest biome.
- Jungle trees are found only in the jungle.
- Oak trees are found in many biomes, including extreme hills, forest, swamp, and jungle edge.
- Fir trees are most readily found in the taiga biome, but can also naturally arise in cold taiga, mega taiga, and extreme hills.
Step 3. Get some saplings
Unlike many other vegetables in Minecraft, trees do not grow from seeds, but rather from saplings. You can harvest them from existing trees, such as the ones you found. Saplings harvested from a tree will produce a tree of the same type. To collect them, the simplest method is to cut down the tree.
- You can cut down a tree more easily with an ax, but you can also do it with your bare hands.
- Stand next to the tree and left click on one block of wood at a time, holding the button down until it breaks. Once you collect all the blocks, the leaves will begin to fade. Each leaf block has a chance to drop a sapling.
- Collect the sapling by walking on it.
- If you don't want to cut the tree, you can collect the leaf blocks with right click.
- Not all blocks will drop a sapling, so it may take a few minutes to get one.
Step 4. Choose the location to plant
Now that you have a sapling to plant, you will need to decide where to grow your tree. You should usually plant them close to your base or place of creation for quick access to a supply of wood, but you can plant them wherever you like.
- You will need to plant the sapling on earth, podsòl or grass.
- The sapling will need to be exposed to light, i.e. it will need to be outdoors or be illuminated by an alternative light source if grown indoors. The most commonly used alternative lighting sources are torches and luminite.
- Trees cannot grow through other blocks, so make sure there is nothing directly above them.
Step 5. Plant the saplings
Now that you have made sure that the planting area is ideal, you can plant the saplings by selecting them from the object bar and then right clicking on the chosen block to plant.
Method 2 of 2: Planting Trees in Creative Mode
Step 1. Choose what type of tree to plant
Although planting a tree in Creative mode is a slightly different process, it is still important to know what types of trees to plant. Since you probably won't have to factor in creative resources, you will be interested in the aesthetic qualities of tree types.
- Acacias are the most unique trees in Minecraft in aesthetic terms. Even though the trunk is brown and the leaves are green, the wood blocks themselves have a diagonal pattern, and often the trunks will grow in a spiral. Acacia trees can have more than one canopy.
- Birches have light green leaves with white trunks.
- Black oaks are similar to oaks, but are slightly darker, both in the color of the trunk and leaves.
- Jungle trees are the tallest, they are dark and often cause lianas to grow.
- Oak trees are the most common and have the appearance of a generic tree. The trunk grows straight and not as tall as that of spruce trees or jungle trees.
- Spruce trees (also known as pines) have the appearance of an evergreen tree. The bark is darker than that of oak or black oak trees, and the leaves are denser with a slight blue tint.
Step 2. Get some saplings
Getting the saplings in creative mode is much easier than doing it in survival, because you already have access to all kinds of saplings from your inventory and you won't have to go looking for them.
- Press E to bring up the inventory. You'll notice right away that in creative mode you have access to all blocks and materials, including saplings.
- You can search for objects by pressing the search tab in the upper right corner of the window. Search for the type of sapling you would like to plant or type "sapling" to see all options.
- When you have found the sapling to plant, left click on its icon to place it in the item bar.
Step 3. Choose a place for the implant
In creative mode, planting is much easier, but if you want your tree to grow properly, you will still need to consider a few elements.
- To plant a tree, the block you are placing it on must be earth, podsòl or grass.
- You will need to provide a light source for the tree. If you plant the tree outdoors, the sunlight will take care of everything. If you plant it indoors, you can use torches and luminite to illuminate the tree.
- You will need to make sure there are no blocks directly above the sapling, as trees cannot grow through other blocks.
Step 4. Plant the saplings
You should still have the sapling in the item bar, so select by pressing the number that corresponds to its slot.
- For example, if the sapling is in the second slot, just press "2" on the keyboard to select it.
- You can plant the sapling by right clicking on the desired block.
