Windows 'Safe Mode' is a useful tool to fix problems that limit system functionality during repair. Being optimized for touch-screen devices, the new Windows 8 operating system starts up very quickly compared to previous versions of Windows, which is why the procedure for booting into safe mode has changed. This tutorial shows you how to start Windows 8 in Safe Mode in a number of different ways.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use Safe Mode While the Computer is On
Step 1. Use the 'Run' feature
Press the 'Windows' and 'R' keys on your keyboard at the same time. The 'Run' window will appear.
Step 2. Type the command 'msconfig' and select the 'Boot Options' tab from the panel that appeared
Step 3. Select the 'Safe Mode' checkbox
Select the type of safe mode you want from those listed. You can choose between 'Minimal', 'Alternative Shell', 'Restore Active Directory' and 'Network' modes.
If the repair is related to minor problems, it is advisable to choose the 'Minimal' mode
Step 4. Press the 'Apply' button
Step 5. Restart your computer
On the next reboot it will enter safe mode.
Step 6. Repeat steps 1-4 to disable Safe Mode by unchecking the 'Safe Mode' checkbox located in the 'Boot Options' tab of the 'System Configuration' panel
If you don't make this configuration change, your computer will always start in safe mode.
Method 2 of 3: Enable Safe Mode While the Computer is Off
Step 1. Press the power button to start the computer
Step 2. When you reach the login screen, do not log in
Instead, select the shutdown icon in the lower right corner of the screen and choose the 'Restart' option while holding down the 'Shift' key.
Method 3 of 3: Enable Safe Mode from Settings
Step 1. Move the mouse cursor to the right end of the screen
Select the item 'Settings' from the menu that appeared, it will be identifiable by the classic gear icon.
Step 2. Select the 'Change PC settings' item and choose the 'General' item
Step 3. Press the 'Restart Now' button located in the 'Advanced Startup' section
When prompted to select an option, choose the 'Troubleshoot' item.
Step 4. Select the 'Startup Settings' item and choose the 'Restart' option
The startup screen will appear and you can choose to start your computer in safe mode.
