This guide explains how to sign up for Spotify and how to use this program to listen to music and create playlists. You can use Spotify either through the mobile app or on a computer. This application requires internet access to work, although premium users can listen to songs they have previously downloaded offline.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Set up Spotify
Step 1. Visit the Spotify page
Type https://www.spotify.com on your favorite browser.
This method works only on computers; on a mobile browser, you will be able to subscribe, but you can only listen to the previews of the songs
Step 2. Click on DOWNLOAD SPOTIFY FREE
You will see this green button on the left side of the page. In some countries, the free option is not available and the button is centered.
Step 3. Enter your credentials
You will need to fill in the following fields:
- E-mail - enter a valid e-mail address (and to which you have access);
- confirm email - repeat the e-mail address;
- Password - the password you have chosen for Spotify;
- Username - the username you have chosen for Spotify;
- Date of birth - select the day, month and year of your date of birth;
- Sex - check the "Male", "Female" or "Non-binary" box;
- You can also click Log in with Facebook at the top of the page if you prefer to use your Facebook credentials.
Step 4. Check the "I'm not a robot" box
You will see it at the bottom of the page. In most cases, you will need to go through another verification step, selecting a group of images or typing a word.
Step 5. Click Sign Up
This green button is located almost at the bottom of the page. Press it to create your Spotify account.
If you are using a computer, clicking on subscribe you will start downloading the Spotify installation file.
Step 6. Open Spotify
The icon for this program is green, with 3 horizontal black lines. On mobile devices, open the Spotify app by pressing on it. On a computer, double-click the program icon.

If you haven't downloaded the Spotify app yet, it's available for:
- iPhone on the App Store;
- Android on the Google Play Store;
- Windows & Mac on the Spotify website.
Step 7. Log in to Spotify
Enter your username (or email address) and password, then click or press Log in. The main Spotify page will open, from which you can start using the program.
If you have set up Spotify through Facebook, click on Log in with Facebook and enter your social network credentials.
Method 2 of 3: Use Spotify
Step 1. Look at the main page
Here you will find suggested artists, most popular playlists, new releases and other personalized content.
You can return to this page by clicking on Home on mobile devices or on Navigate on computer.
Step 2. Access your music library
Press on Your library at the bottom of the screen on mobile devices, or look for this item in the left column of the main program page on a computer. You will see various options appear:
- Playlist (mobile devices) - select this option to view the playlists created by you;
- Radio - view the radio stations related to the artists you have saved;
- Songs - view the list of songs you have saved;
- Album - view the list of albums you have saved;
- Artists - view the list of artists you have saved;
- Download (mobile devices) - view all the songs you have downloaded for offline listening (premium feature);
- Local files (computer) - view the list of MP3 files saved on your computer and play them through Spotify.
Step 3. Open the Spotify Radio function
Press on the tab Radio on mobile devices, or click on Radio in the upper left corner of the computer program window. Here, you can select or search for radio stations that play music from artists, genres and albums you like (or similar).
Step 4. Use the search function
Press on Search for at the bottom of the screen on mobile devices, then click on the "Search" field; alternatively, click on the "Search" bar at the top of the main computer page. This will open a text field where you can search for specific artists, albums, genres and playlists.
- You can also use this feature to search for friend profiles and podcasts.
- Search for an artist name and press Shuffle Playback (mobile devices) or click on Play (computer) to listen to one of his songs.
- Swipe left on a song (mobile) or click … and then on Save to your favorite songs (computer), in order to save that song to your list Songs.
Step 5. Go back to the main page
Now that you know how to find and play your favorite songs, it's time to create your own custom playlists.
Method 3 of 3: Create a Playlist
Step 1. Open the playlists page
On mobile devices, tap on the tab Your library, then on Playlist. On your computer, just look for the "Playlist" section at the bottom of the left column of the main page.
Step 2. Create a new playlist
Press on Create playlist in the center of the screen (mobile devices) or click on + New playlist in the lower left corner of the Spotify (computer) window.
Step 3. Name your playlist
On your computer, you can also add a description in the "Description" field.
Step 4. Select Create
This way, you will create your playlist.
Step 5. Find the songs for your playlist
To search for a specific artist, album or song to add, just type a specific term in the "Search" bar to find the music you are interested in. Alternatively, you can browse the various genres on the tab Navigate (mobile devices) or by scrolling in the main page of the program (computer).
Step 6. Add the songs to your playlist
Press on … next to an artist's album or song, then tap on Add to playlist and select the name of the list. On your computer, click on … next to an artist's album or song, then select Add to playlist and click on the name of the list in the menu that appears.
Step 7. Listen to your playlist
Open the list, then press Shuffle Playback at the top of the screen (mobile devices) or click on Play at the top of the playlist window (computer).
On your computer, the songs in your playlist will all play before moving on to others of a similar genre. On mobile devices, however, if you have a free account, the playlist will include the songs you have selected, but will also randomly play songs of similar genres
Advice
- You can use the same Spotify account on multiple devices, but you can only actively listen to music on one at a time.
- You can make your profile private in the settings. That way, other people won't be able to see your playlists or the songs you're currently listening to.
- You can cancel your Spotify Premium subscription at any time, even from Android or iPhone devices.
