Once waxed, black cars show stains, scratches, streaks and other imperfections more prominently than vehicles of other colors. Black cars need a special wax which is called black wax or black car wax. Here are some tips for learning how to wax so your black car looks new.
Steps
Step 1. Check what kind of paint was used for your car, and purchase a specific cleaner
Car paints are usually acrylic, latex, polyurethane or lacquer.
Step 2. Wash and dry the car before waxing
This is a very important step in order to be able to apply a smooth and even layer of wax.
Step 3. Buy the black wax
Use this product if the bodywork has superficial scratches, some small imperfections, or if you just want to restore its shine. The wax is effective on discolored paint only if the latter is oxidized.
Step 4. Apply the wax by hand
Use a damp sponge cloth or a gauze cloth: put a little wax on the cloth and, with moderate pressure and circular movements, cover the bodywork. Make sure that the various wax passes overlap a little: the pressure helps you eliminate imperfections and surface scratches.
Step 5. As soon as it is dry, remove the wax
By doing this, you remove the excess product and the bodywork will shine again.
Step 6. Use a lambswool pad for an "extra-shiny" touch if the previous step didn't give the result you expected
Pass this tool over the bodywork with circular motions and moderate pressure.
Advice
- A good alternative to colored wax are polish and abrasive pastes.
- Change the cloth when the one you are using gets very dirty with wax. Make sure you have several clean cloths before starting work.
- Waxing two sections of cars at a time is the quickest technique, because you don't have to wait for the product to dry. For example, wax the door first, and then the bumper. When you have finished waxing the second area you can already polish the door, when the door is finished you can polish the bumper.
- Always use a clean, lint-free cloth. Terry cloths and gauze cloths are best for this job.
Warnings
- If the paint on your car is very damaged (with a combination of cracks, loss of color and opacity), or the scratches are very deep, the wax and polishing products will not help you. In this case a complete painting is necessary, or at least some touch-ups at a body shop.
- It is always better to wax a black car inside the garage, unless the outside temperature is below 29 ° C. Never wax your car in direct sunlight if it is more than 32 ° C.
- Make sure the wax is dry but not too dry before removing it, otherwise it won't shine. The right drying time depends on environmental factors, such as humidity and temperature. If the latter is between 18 and 21 ° C, wait for a warmer day to ensure adequate drying time.
