Being pampered in a comfortable beauty center is always pleasant, but it can happen that you don't have time to wait for an appointment for a waxing. If you want to try waxing yourself, this article will be of great use and will show you a simple recipe to achieve the desired result.
Ingrediants
- 250 g of granulated sugar
- 250 ml of honey
- 125 ml of lemon juice
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Prepare the Wax
Step 1. Melt the sugar
Pour the sugar into a medium-sized, strong-bottomed saucepan and melt over medium-high heat, without stirring - only occasionally swirling the pot - until the sugar begins to caramelize. The scent released will be delicious!
Step 2. Add honey and lemon and mix with a wooden spoon
Be careful: the sugar will swell and become very hot.
Keep stirring until the mixture has melted, taking on the consistency of pancake batter. If the mixture is too thick, add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, to achieve the desired consistency
Step 3. Before using the wax, let it cool slightly
If you want to use it in the future, let it cool and then put it in the refrigerator.
Part 2 of 2: Using the Wax
Step 1. Find out what length of hair you want to remove
Ideally, they should be between 3 and 6 mm long.
- If the hairs were too short, the wax would not be able to extract the hair from the root.
- If the hairs are too long, you may have an unpleasant experience.
Step 2. Prepare strips of fabric
If you don't have wax strips available, you can cut a washcloth or shirt that is linen or cotton (do not use stretch fabrics).
If frayed edges bother you, you can sew the edges of the strips with a sewing machine
Step 3. You can dust the leather with some talcum powder before applying the wax
The talcum powder, or cornstarch, will absorb the sebum and moisture from the skin, so the wax can adhere perfectly to the hair (not the skin), making the whole process less painful.
Step 4. Apply the wax
Use a tongue depressor or spatula to apply the sugar-based wax to the area to be treated. Smear it in the direction of hair growth.
Step 5. Take a strip of fabric and spread it over the wax following the direction of hair growth
Step 6. Wait a while for the wax to cool completely
You can lift a corner of the strip to check if it sticks properly.
Step 7. Remove the strip
Grab the strip by the edge and tear it in the OPPOSITE direction of hair growth, keeping the skin taut. Tear off the strip with a sharp and quick movement, trying to form an angle of less than 90 ° with the fabric.
Step 8. Store leftover wax in the refrigerator
You can store the wax for a couple of weeks in the refrigerator, or for a couple of months in the freezer.
Advice
- After waxing, in visible areas of the body such as the face, you can apply a soothing gel to reduce redness. If you are prone to redness, it would be best to wax your face on a day when you don't need to go out.
- About two days before waxing it is advisable to exfoliate the area to be treated, to make sure that the skin is clean.
- If the mixture dries out before application, reheat in a water bath.
- If you have wax residue on your skin, rinse the area with warm water. If that's not enough, boil some water with 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Let the mixture cool and then use it to clean the part.
Warnings
- Do not heat the wax in the microwave. The microwave does not heat the wax evenly, and extremely hot areas could be created. Heat the wax using the water bath method.
- Test the temperature of the wax very carefully before applying it to the skin.
