Although the days of Harry Potter character disguises are definitely over, it is possible that one day you may still have the opportunity to show off your best wizard outfit! With the right clothing, an unmistakable cut, a hint of makeup and a host of magical accessories you can easily look like Hermione Granger. So get to work, so you are ready for Halloween and the next costume party!
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Creating the Right Look
Step 1. Put on a white shirt
Get a plain white shirt that you can button up in front.
Step 2. Put on a skirt
Get a gray or black skirt that reaches almost to the knee. Creases are optional.
Step 3. Choose a vest and tie
Get a V-neck vest to wear over your shirt. Choose a tie in the colors of Gryffindor (gold and scarlet) to wear under the vest.
You can also wear a buttoned cardigan instead of a waistcoat, especially if you're not wearing a toga
Step 4. Choose your socks and shoes
Get a pair of knee socks in solid color, gray or black. Shoes should be plain, black or brown, like a pair of "Mary Jane" or moccasins.
Step 5. Put on a toga
You can find one in university bookstores, theatrical or second-hand costume shops, or charity markets. Just make sure it's in good condition - Hermione would never wear tattered or worn clothing.
Ask if you have a lawyer or university professor in your family who can lend you one. In this case, avoid sewing the Hogwarts crest over it
Part 2 of 3: Styling and Makeup
Step 1. Decide which Hermione you want to model
If you want to get inspired by Hermione as a child, opt for thick and puffy hair. If, on the other hand, your model is Hermione when you grow up, choose long and wavy hair, to eventually stop at the sides with hairpins.
Remember: Hermione has brown hair, so avoid blonde and light brown
Step 2. Style your hair
If you want to represent Hermione as a child, blow dry your hair and brush it for maximum volume. Don't use hairspray, but it leaves your hair loose and frizzy. If, on the other hand, you want to represent Hermione when you grow up, to wave your hair easily follow this technique: apply a little mousse to damp hair, divide the hair into two sections and make a braid for each side. You should end up with two braids running down the sides of the face. Let your hair dry before loosening your braids. They will be wavy and curvy.
Step 3. Choose a very light makeup
Hermione is certainly not famous for trendy clothing and flashy makeup. Instead, try to have a natural look. A concealer, a powder and a pinch of blush are fine. Use a light pink lip gloss for the Hermione costume as a toddler and a matte lipstick for the Hermione costume as an adult.
Step 4. Make up your eyes (optional)
To represent Hermione when she grows up, use eyeshadow in natural shades, such as taupe or beige. Avoid eyeliner and eye pencil. Use a simple mascara: the look must be characterized by maximum sobriety.
If your model is Hermione as a child, avoid any kind of makeup; at the limit, fill in the eyebrows with the pencil to make them thicker
Part 3 of 3: Choosing the Accessories
Step 1. Bring some books
You can carry them in your hand or put them in a folder. They must be books of magic! Choose a few and line them with brown deli paper. Finally decorate the covers and add a nice description of the title. Some examples of titles could be: "Muggle Studies", "Divination" or "Magic Potions".
If you use a folder, load it with objects in the shape of books. Real books would be too heavy. Instead, try using cardboard boxes or squared blocks of polystyrene, to put under a few real books with decorated covers
Step 2. Wear a "time turner"
Get a small hourglass and attach it to a gold chain to put around your neck, if possible with rings encircling the hourglass. This is the time turner that Hermione uses in the "Prisoner of Azkaban" to be able to attend all the classes.
Step 3. Sew a Hogwarts crest onto the toga
Buy or make a Hogwarts crest with your own hands showing the four houses. If you can, also make a brooch with the C. R. E. P. A. logo, like the one Hermione wears in support of the Poor and Abbrut Elf Rehabilitation Committee. Simply apply silver paper or foil to a card. For the C. R. E. P. A. use decorative fonts.
Step 4. Bring a magic wand
You can buy a wooden one or make one with your own hands. If you choose to do it yourself, decide how realistic you want it to be. You can carve it, or make it from a roll of decorative paper. In any case, it must be just under 30 cm long.
