A bow is an elegant, symmetrical and pleasing way to complete a package. More fancy decorative bows could be used as clothing accessories, decoration at weddings or other special events. Learn how to tie a simple bow, a multiple bow and a floral bow.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Making a Simple Bow
Step 1. Start with a ribbon or cord with a knot
The technique for tying a simple bow is the same no matter what type of ribbon you use and for what purpose you do it. All you need is a ribbon with two ends tied with a knot in the center.
- If you are tying a bow on a bundle, pull the ribbon under the bundle, bring both ends back over the bundle, and tie the ends together so that the ends are the same length. At this point we have two sides of the ribbon to work on.
- You can make a bow with a piece of ribbon other than the one you are tying the package with. Tie a knot in the center of the ribbon so that the two ends are the same length.
Step 2. Make a first bow with the left side of the ribbon
Squeeze it between your thumb and forefinger to hold it in place. If you are tying a ribbon, be careful that it is not twisted; the staple should be smoothed out.
Step 3. Make a second bow
This time bring the right side of the ribbon around and to the base of the left bow. Pull it until you get a second of the same size as the first. Use the same technique you use when tying your shoes.
Step 4. Tighten the bow
Pull the two bows to tighten the knot. Make sure they are the same length and the free ends are also the same length. The jib is complete.
Method 2 of 3: Make a Multiple Bow
Step 1. Start with a long piece of ribbon
For this knot, cut a piece of ribbon about 30 centimeters long. Leave it straight and knot-free.
Step 2. Make a loop near the left end of the bow
Start 7-8 inches from the end of the bow and make a loop. Hold it steady with your thumb and forefinger.
Step 3. Loop the right end of the ribbon around the other loop to create a second one
The ribbon should now resemble an "S" in reverse with a tail on each end. Hold the rings with one hand so they don't come undone.
Step 4. Continue making loops with the ribbon
With the remainder of the ribbon, make several loops, like an accordion, so that you get a series of loops with two ends of equal length sticking out from both sides.
Step 5. Fix the center
Use a piece of florist's wire or a piece of fine wire to tie the rings together in the center, dividing them in two. You now have one set of rings on the right side and one on the left side.
Step 6. "Tousled" the eyelets
Separate the eyelets and "ruffle" them a little so that the central part is no longer visible. Use scissors to cut the ends, giving them the shape of an inverted "V" for a professional touch.
Method 3 of 3: Make a Flower-shaped Bow
Step 1. Wrap a piece of tape around your hand
Hold the end firmly on the palm of your hand with your thumb, and continue wrapping all the tape. Each turn he makes around the hand should be neatly overlaid on the previous one.
Step 2. Slip the wrapped ribbon as it is out of your hand and fold it in half
Be careful not to undo it when you take it out of your hand.
Step 3. Cut the ribbon in the center
Hold the folded ribbon in one hand, so that the folded center part is facing up, then take a pair of scissors with the other hand and cut a corner on both sides of the wrapped ribbon, in the folded part.
- Be careful to cut all the layers of the ribbon. Make a firm, neat cut, making sure none of the layers of tape slip off.
- Do not cut the two corners too close to the center of the ribbon.
Step 4. Use a second ribbon to tie the center of the ribbon
Wrap the second around the corners you cut and tie a knot. You can also use florist's tape or string.
Step 5. Fan the flakes
Separate the bows individually outwards. Pull the bows gently from the center and fold them towards you. Arrange them like the petals of a flower. The floral bow is complete.
