Your fourteenth birthday is coming, but you don't know how to celebrate it? We help you with some ideas.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: What Kind of Party?
Step 1. Some teens think they are too old to have a birthday party
If you think so too, avoid having a traditional party. You can still invite close friends and family to dinner, and have a cake together. If you really want to have a big party instead, read on.
Step 2. Choose a theme
One of the hardest things when celebrating a birthday is figuring out how to do it. Here are some ideas:
- A themed party (Hawaiian, Hollywood etc.)
- A pool party (at home or in a private pool)
- A masquerade party
- A shopping-party at the mall
- A movie party (watch a movie in the cinema or at home)
- A karaoke party (use your own karaoke or go to a specialty pub)
- A party inspired by a TV show (X Factor, Big Brother, Isola dei Famosi …)
- Go to an amusement park
- Go on horseback
- A dance party
- Go on inline skates or on ice
- A beach party
- Go to a concert
- Go to a game (football, rugby, basketball, etc.)
- Go bowling
- Play laser tag
- A disco party
- Go camping outdoors (eat grilled meat, sleep in tents, etc.)
- Organize a mud fight or a food fight etc.
Method 2 of 3: Organize the Party
Step 1. Decide on the date
Choose the best day to celebrate your birthday. It should be as close to your birthday as possible, but it doesn't have to be exactly that day. Try to organize the party over the weekend, or at most on a Friday night. It is also okay to do it on a day when there is no school. Be careful if your birthday falls during the holidays (summer, Christmas, Easter …): some of your friends may be on vacation. Also, find out if other people are throwing a party during the same period. Coordinate so that you don't celebrate the same night.
Step 2. Decide where to celebrate
If you celebrate at home, then there is no problem. But if you decide to go play laser tag, or go dancing, make sure you book well in advance so you won't have any problems.
Step 3. Decide who to invite
Decide who you want to come to the party. Do you want them to be just girls, or just boys, or both? How many people do you want to invite? Are 5-10 close friends enough, or the whole class? Talk to your parents about it, and make sure they agree.
Step 4. Send the invitations
You could write them by hand, send them by e-mail, via Facebook, by phone, or simply invite your friends by voice. You can also use websites that create invitations automatically, such as Evite.
Method 3 of 3: Prepare the Party
Step 1. Prepare the food
Decide what you will need. Your friends need to be able to eat their fill. If you only offer snacks, plan to provide chips, candies, pretzels, fruit juice, chocolate, etc. You can also make something more delicious, like salami. If, on the other hand, you plan to offer a real meal (lunch or dinner) you can order pizza, sushi, Chinese food, or you can go to a restaurant together. If you are offering breakfast, make sure you have plenty of things on hand. Finally, don't forget a dessert, which can be cake, pastries, brownies, ice cream etc.
Step 2. It's the decoration's turn
Putting beautiful decorations isn't essential, but it makes a big difference. It's more important if you're having a themed party, but still it's always nice when there's some decoration, even if it's just a few balloons. You choose how and how much to decorate the environment, also based on your financial resources.
Step 3. Include some form of entertainment
Don't risk boring your guests. You can keep it simple and put on some music, or a movie, depending on what kind of party you're having. You could even hire someone to sing or dance live to spice up the party. You could also organize some classic games, such as:
- Twister
- Spin the Bottle
- Treasure hunt
- Karaoke
- Quizzes
Warnings
- Always pay attention to your guests, especially their food needs: some may be allergic to certain foods.
- Involve Everyone: Make sure everyone has fun.
- Pay attention to the movies you watch. Just because you're 14 doesn't mean everyone will agree to watch violent movies.
