Many singers, when the moment of performance has arrived, go into crisis and, despite their remarkable skills, fail to win. This article aims to give support and offer some suggestions on how to positively face a singing contest and, maybe, win it!
Steps
Step 1. When looking for a singing contest, pick one that's within your reach
To get started try looking for information in local newspapers, in smaller environments, you would find a friendlier and less competitive atmosphere and maybe you could meet people you already know and exchange tips. If, on the other hand, you have already experienced or have been singing in a group for some time, you can look online. Sometimes, clubs, pubs or concert halls organize auditions for events and competitions.
Step 2. Train
A lot of people are talented and sing divinely, so get out of your head that you are number 1 and train your voice. Look for a band to accompany you or practice karaoke basics. A week before the event, you must already be more than organized and, to do so, you can get help from these questions:
- Are you sufficiently qualified?
- Do you need a band or karaoke backing tracks?
- Have you already scheduled an audition, if so, when and where?
- In order to have a good chance of winning, choose a song that emphasizes your voice and is appropriate for your age. Make a list of the elements that will be evaluated by the judges during the competition.
Step 3. Practice every day, with the group or with the basics, review your piece even if you think you've done enough already
It's all part of being prepared, even repeating the song ad nauseam.
Step 4. Get the song moving, dance, follow the beat
You could get help from a dance teacher, but without exaggerating, you don't have to do a choreography, just add some "spice" to the performance.
Step 5. When you go to the contest or audition, warm up and do a short workout
Step 6. Before you begin, tell yourself that you can do it
You have to believe in your abilities and in the fact that you will give your best, without feeling the victory already in your pocket.
Step 7. Whether you win or lose, don't forget to congratulate your opponents, even if they brag about their triumph
Advice
- Don't be anxious or scared, sing and enjoy.
- Try to stay calm and clear-headed, concentration is key in singing.
- Avoid bragging and showing off your skills, you could make the judges regret having chosen you.
- If you lose, don't give up, try again!
- If you fail to achieve your goal, be patient with yourself.
- Do not talk or argue on stage, if there for one goal: to sing.
- Hear the experiences of other singers.
- Ask the judges for advice and suggestions.
Warnings
- Avoid blowing your emotions on stage. In case of victory, it's fine to be excited and let it leak, but there is no need to scream or jump here and there: the same is true in case of defeat, avoid crying or getting angry, you will have time and time to let off steam later.
- If the win was accompanied by a cash prize, wait until you are home before opening the package or envelope.
- At each age his song, choose songs that suit your age.
- Don't touch your hair all the time on stage, the audience might be annoyed.
